Full Version: I Passed!

Kevin
Firstly, apologies for starting a new thread just to announce my result, but after two failed attempts I've inally passed my grade 8 piano! 94 last time is up to 113 this time. I know it's still not wildly amazing, but normally I only just scrape a pass and my highest previous mark was for G5 at 106.

Despite a few slips in the Handel and breaking the Mozart right near the very end when the rest had gone very well I passed them both. Even the aurals which I thought I'd embarrassed myself with (during the name a piece I said it sounded like satie but said the period was baroque as I didn't have a clue what time he was from) I managed to pass.

Does make up for the times I've thought examiners have been overly harsh. I know in theory they all follow the same guidelines, but they do seem to have wildly different marking schemes in practice.

Good luck to everyone else taking exams this time around. Even if you think it's gone really badly you could be in for a suprise! Don't write yourself off before you get your results.

Really well done Kevin. Thank you for sharing and showing how despite two disappointments you picked yourself up again and tried and tried again.

awesome! VERY well done!

I have a huge amount of respect for anyone who has passed grade 8 piano; it's so difficult!

Although i've done grade 8 on 4 woodwinds, and done 2 diplomas, I'm learning piano (mostly self taught) and find it HUGELY challenging! I feel rather embarassed at the fact that i'm doing my grade 5 piano next Friday (with the woodwinds I went straight in at grade 6, then 8).

All the same it's really beneficial as it helps me to sympathise with my woodwind students in their own struggles!

Once more; WELL DONE!!!!!! woot.gif woot.gif clap.gif clap.gif hurrah.gif

I've been really busy with work lately so this is the first time I've checked the thread. Thanks for all your responses.

Loubrad - which Mozart piece did you do? I did the 3rd mvt from F sonata K332 . Did find it very tricky - esp the key change into the minor at the start of page 4 and I slipped on the sixths towards the end.

Sax girl - How do you find the time to keep up the practice on 4 instruments and then learn the piano as well? I don't think I could ever imagine beign able to do that. You must spend all your day practising.

The mozart i did was sonata in f. I chose it from the extended list as i think its easier than the other b pieces. However, I have smal hands and found the start and also the right hand 8ves impossible! For list c i did alligator crawl, which i really liked but its frustrating having to play exactly as written and not being allowed to 'jazz it up'.I also did handel fugue.

What other pieces did you do kevin?

Most of B list seemed about the same level to me (except the Mendelssohn) so just did the one I liked best.
I wanted to do the Alligator Crawl but couldn't get the hang of it, so I went for what I thought was the easy choice with the Gershwin Man I Love.
I also did the Handel fugue - the first time I've ever played a fugue! I almost went for the Scarlatti, but I've done sonatas in list A for every other exam and fnacied something a bit different.
