Hey
As this is my year out I'm using it to fill in a lot of the gaps I missed out with my first teacher as a beginner, such as sightreading, rhythms, technique and aural (kind of the whole basics of everything! lol)
The thing is, I have never done aural in my lessons until my new teacher has started introducing, which I'm so glad she's taking the time to go over all the stuff I missed out.
I have the abrsm book with the CD but are there any websites I can go on for additional practise? Or any other idea's I can use to practise aural.
I've basically got till March to get up to a decent standard in time for my exam, so wanting to get everything learnt and practised as much as possible.
Thank you

you could try playing by ear -- I know that is not part of aural, but it will help. Play anything you come across! Advertising jingles, Christmas carols, songs on the radio, whatever - anything that helps you exercise the ability to translate what you hear into some sort of musical representation. And maybe it will even be fun?

I registered with Hofnote before my grade 8. I found the exercises were quite good for getting to grips with chord progressions and cadences. HOWEVER, I forgot everything I had learnt come the exam!
Hofnote is ok for practising what you've learnt, but might be worth getting up to speed with the basics with your teacher before registering there to practise.

I second Hofnote, you get 4 months so could register now, and you can see your progress. Also revise your theory - chords, inversions etc. I wouldn't have managed if I hadn't just done my grade 6 theory.
Try and work out chord progressions in cadence points and modulations in pieces you have.

Also practice the singing back and sight singing parts, listening to the bass line can be tricky.

And practice listening to pieces and trying to describe them...I couldn't remember enough of the piece in the exam when he asked me what form it was, got it right with a guess.

Good luck!

Paul Harris - Improve Your Aural - I find these books quite helpful, and you can work through them on your own with the CD that is included.
