I teach a few jazz pupils and need some guidance on what books to use to get them to be able to sightread the more complex rhythms in preparation for quick studies exam
I use loads of normal sightreading books but stuck for jazz
Something with basic rhythms and how to read them - ideally aimed at children
I`ve started writing my own but hard going and my trial run resulted in a bored 9 year old!!!
Thanks

AB actually publish a book for each level of the exam.
Would the AB Real book be of any use for this purpose? It might be worth having a look at.

I had the same problem for my daughter. The published ABRSM resource has only a small number of pieces to practice with. The teacher also ran out of practice materials for short study.
In the end I got books: Piano time jazz, Jazz upgrade (Pam Wedgwood) and Martha Mier's books. Stop her after a few bars and make her do improvisation.
