Sorry really just need to get my frustration out on this but due to the local council budget cuts music lessons in schools are suffering my lesson costs have basically been doubled a year which means that I'll probably no longer be able to take lessons in violin sadvio.gif I don't see why music should have to suffer in schools because of these budget cuts they've already gotten rid of all percussion lessons in the area due to cuts what's next no lessons at all?

Maybe they should stop throwing money away on Citizenship, World Development, PSHE, (and other things we used to cover in a once-weekly Tutor Group lesson) and put it back into something worthy like the Arts.
Sorry this is happening to you, AshyAsh - believe me, you're not the only one sad.gif

Hear, hear. Most of us aged-ones have managed to survive without Citizenship et al! smile.gif

Just think of how much money you'll save on not going to conservatoire by not doing the violin. If you do a five year course at Birmingham it'll put you ?45000 in debt - and that's just for the tuition fees.

No, seriously, I think it's terrible that they are doublng your lesson fees. When I was at school instrumental lessons were free, and I played on a school violin.

Don't forget that this is precisely why private teachers exist.
You don't have to have lessons in school, you can have them privately.

Of course, what you may well find is that the new school lesson prices still undercut private teachers massively.
In which case they're still a bargain, just not the massively huge bargain that they were.

And if they don't undercut, then go private, you'll get personal attention and probably a much nicer learning room than a school cupboard...

You have choice over and above throwing it all away.

This may depend on parents feeling it's important enough to source and fund. Not to mention affording it if it is going to be more expensive than previously subsidised in school lessons.
The only reason we played instrument while at school was because lessons were free and instruments belonged to the school. Apart from not being able to afford instruments and lessons I don't think that it would have been something that would have been suggested by parents.
