So.

Cukas applications all filled in now! Where did everyone apply to? Be nice to know a few people at colleges before I go considering I'm the only one from my school this year Cukasing.... (Is that even a word? wink.gif )
OboePiano
I applied last year, and I'm now at Birmingham smile.gif Good luck with your applications! smile.gif
BerkshireMum
Is it that time again already?! I always enjoy reading about the conservatoire and university applications, and later the offers.

Very best of luck, SaxLad! I look forward to hearing how your auditions go and which conservatoire you feel you would fit in best at. smile.gif

How's it going so far, OboePiano?
Claudia's Mum
Can you do CUKAS and apply for Universities as well or do you have to do one or the other?
andante
Yes you can do both.
Chris H
Musicstand's applying for both: RNCM, Birmingham, Royal Welsh, Royal Scottish and Trinity Conservatoires and York, Huddersfield and Nottingham Universities.
andante
Do you have to put them in order of preference on the form?

Which ones does he prefer and why? (We'll be filling the form in for next year, so it's interesting to hear other peoples views)

No, you don't have to put them in order of preference. He has mainly avoided the London ones because of the expense - I'll PM you with reasons for the other choices.
andante
Thanks.

It's going really well, I'm into the second week of the actual course, and just waiting to start the elective courses next week smile.gif I'm really enjoying it so far, and would definitely recommend Birmingham to anyone looking at conservatoires/music colleges

Hope everyone's applications go well!

Are you by any chance taking Kodaly as an elective? If you are, then it's a very good friend of mine who teaches it!

No I'm not, I decided against it in the end, I'm doing Folk instead to develop skills of learning by ear and playing from memory, both of which I really enjoy biggrin.gif I might do Kodaly next year though, it depends how my electives this year go smile.gif
Cyrilla
Ah, folk is good too!

Hope you try the Kod next year smile.gif

offTopic.gif Completely off Topic, but my secondary school has been using kodaly with the year 7's recently as it has been being taught in some of the area's primary schools.

They were shocked when I knew what it was biggrin.gif

Thanks Cyrilla

On topic I preferred the London ones most definitely, however Royal Welsh is well worth a look.

If you get a chance, SaxLad, could you please PM me and let me know which school this is? Thanks!

Son is CUKASing too - has applied to RAM, RCM, RNCM, Trinity, Guildhall and RWCMD. Big relief when all applications were in (and shock slowly subsiding over the cost!). Waiting for audition dates etc............ lots of practise going on!
Pixie*Porsche
Good luck to all applying smile.gif
Devil_Fiddler
Good luck to everyone applying - I'm in my second year at Birmingham now and loving it - and I do just have to mention that Birmingham came out as the joint top conservatoire (with RAM) in the national student survey this year biggrin.gif

Hi OboePiano, not sure I've met you yet, but slightly belated welcome to Brum smile.gif Just wanted to say - great choice of elective - I did folk last year and am again this year and it's brilliant - and the only elective where you get to go on tour! Probably see you later, hope you enjoy it smile.gif

Hope the auditions go well. It's a really mad time, I went through it with one child last year, and will probably be doing it all again next year. Hope the audition dates work out well for your son, not too much dashing about, and that he manages to enjoy some of it at least.

Thank you, that's very nice of you. At least his first one is at a very good time for trains, we will be able to travel there and back on the same day.

2 auditions through now - RCS (forgot he had applied for that one!) on the 9th Nov and RWCMD on the 16th. Hopefully these are the only two that will be so difficult (and expensive!) to arrange travel for. Had the great idea of flying to Glasgow rather than getting the train, then remembered that he plays 'cello and flying with 'cello is full of problems!

We've heard nothing from the Royal Welsh yet...

Son's got auditions for Royal Scottish and Royal Welsh now, nothing from Trinity at all, either.

Auditioning on clarinet, got one for welsh and scottish, had reciepts of application from birmingham and rncm but no audition date yet.

Exactly the same as my son, then (apart from he's auditioning on saxophone). Have you applied to Trinity?

Sorry, just reread your post - I see you've applied to four. Son's applied to Trinity because he wants to do jazz as second study.

Son's is sax. I suppose we'll find out on the day if the place is full of sax players.

Nope, My Birmingham is on the 10th.

Although, that may be the jazz course auditioning on that day

From my experience they do tend to audition the same instrument on the same day/days depending on numbers, although something like classical and jazz saxophone will probably be on different days as they won't involve the same tutors/accompanist/student band players.

Oh dear. Although Trinity did seem to be more accomodating in the email about changing days and times than other conservatoires.

Hope it all works out
STRINGMUM
Son has got dates for the Guildhall 23rd and the Royal Collage on the 30th.

Son now has dates for Trinity (21/11), Guildhall (22/11) and RAM (5/12). Just waiting now for dates for RCM and RNCM and we're done!

Hi Devil_Fiddler- I'm the 1st year oboe in folk, so it's fairly easy to pick me out amongst all the flutes and violins from my year biggrin.gif and I'm loving it so far, really reminds me of the sort of stuff I used to do on a music program I was on throughout last year biggrin.gif

I don't know if it's the same as last year, but we were given the opportunity to choose our audition times, so there were all sorts of instruments being auditioned at the same time smile.gif good luck all of you!!
