Hi all

harp.gif harp.gif harp.gif Happy new year!
Emilylou's mum here, I am looking for a pedal harp trolley to replace the rather old cumbersome one we are using at the moment, Has anyone got any advice on ones that you have used, I know the "harpo" is supposed to be the best but have you seen the price!!! My husband is very handy I am sure we can make one for a fraction of the price, I would like one with a deep platform ideally and lightweight any suggestions?

Hi Emily-Lou's Mum,
I agree about the 'harpo', that's a ridiculous amount of money and you don't seem to get much for it. My harp trolley was purchased about 6 years old so I'm not too sure about the price, it can't have been more than ?300 though. I got it from Holywell Music, it's still on their website but unfortunately I couldn't see a price. I would definitely recommend a six-wheel trolley like mine, I started off with a two wheeler and the difference is amazing! Much easier for going up stairs and glides along the ground. It's quite heavy but it's worth it for the ease of use. Though I haven't moved it in years, that's what I married my husband for! Handily he's an events manager at a well known hotel chain so he's an expert in using the trolleys as they're very similar to the ones he uses to move stacks of chairs around, though occaisionally I have to remind him that my harp is worth alot more than the chairs!
Good luck with the hunt!

Sorry, ours is a camac trolley with the camac specific knob that fits into bottom of only camac harps. And the handle that turns to make the whole unit one movable object holding the harp. What I would say is wheels are important. Either go the 6 wheeler or big thick wheels that are already partly above the stair when on the stair below. I havnt seen a home made job yet for a full size pedal harp so presumably not that easy to construct or more people would. Its not that easy to try one out and sneak phone photos of it I would imagine without beng very unpopular in the shop. Stairs are not very easy full stop as far as I can see. 2 people makes a huge difference if you have to do a lot in one go. So does a relatively light harp. I can fairly easily move ours but couldnt do an Apollo alone for example (around 6kg difference in harp weight). Oh, and check you can get both harp and trolley into car OK.

I bought a fantastic little two wheeler for about ?200. I can't remember what it is called thought. It is basically a wooden cup that goes behind the harp, with two large wheels on either side, and a massive strap that secures the harp to it - and that's it! You then use the actual harp as the trolley back/handle. The wheels are so large I got it up and down several kerbs and stairs with almost no fuss at all.

I'll do a bit of digging online and see if I can find the name of it.
