Grade 6 clarinet, will be so glad when it's over!

Should have taken my exam yesterday but had a killer headache. sad.gif My lovely teacher is trying to rearrange but there are only a couple of days left for Trinity's session. Fingers crossed there will be an exam slot available somewhere. Fortunately quite a number of venues within driving distance- one of the few advantages of living in the SE !

Thanks Jazzycat, my fab teacher (who already has more than enough on her plate, I'm sure) has found a place for me at another centre tomorrow lunchtime. My partner has offered to drive me there, bless him. I can function around the house without Ibuprofen today so hopefully I'll be able to make it.

Sending good luck and good health vibes to you all!

I got my results today biggrin.gif I passed with MERIT - two parks off a distinction though! Stupid aural let me down though, only got 10/18 sad.gif but I'm chuffed with a merit as I didn't think I would get that!

Good luck to all those still to do exams!

Yeah, I was really impressed with my marks for the rest. List A and B were 27, List C (which I have hated practicing and was really dredding playing it) I got 28. Scales and Sight Reading I got 18 in both. Really surprised as I got A Major and G Minor slurred and I didn't get either of the top notes out! I can assure people if they make a mistake, keep going as I did and you still score high! I wasn't sure on my aural, I thought the sight singing was my strongest part, it was naming the parts of the piece which gives its character that I struggled with, but I hadn't realised that the syllabus had changed until a week before my exam as I thought I had to say what the character was :s but overall, I'm pleased I got a very high merit, as I expected a pass, and I did well in the main parts of the exam smile.gif

I did mine on 16th March and got the results 27th March. My friend did her Grade 8 saxophone (she got 144!) on 14th March and she found out yesterday too.

Feel like having a good old sob. Tech/scales, musical knowledge and aural OK-ish, but pieces just fell apart. Had great difficulty with the grand paino, the keys had that sort of clunky feel and I couldn't get any sound out of A above middle C and panic set in..... sad.gif Apparently result should be available in a week or so.
Now I'll have to break the news to my teacher ......... eek.gif hides.gif
Appassionata
Niobe - I'm sure you're just remembering all the bad bits. Hopefully you'll get a good result and the examiner will see you were just having trouble with the piano.

I've already got nerves for tomorrow. I've practiced too much and have developed tendinitis sad.gif

Try not to worry too much, niobe. The examiner will (should) have tried the piano before beginning the exams, so would have known what the feel of it was like. Just focus on the positive for now, and don't forget that exams are just a snapshot of your playing on one particular day. Hope you don't have long to wait.

My only exam candidate had her piano Grade 2 today, and phoned afterwards to say that she froze on her scales! I'm nervous for her, but hoping she did okay as she said there wasn't any problem with the pieces. Crossed fingers for everyone!

goodLuck.gif for tomorrow, Appassionata!

2.22 tomorrow (AARGH). Last run through with accompanist went well - we stayed together on the "shakier" B list piece despite me making a complete hash of most of the semiquaver runs. Just fell over fingers, but kept counting and found my way back in again, and again and again. That was the mock exam. The first run through that day was the best I've ever played it. Mozart (A list) went well and feels safe and secure generally.

I'm the best prepared I've ever been for an exam - A list (Mozart Rondo in D) performed in informal recital at SW Flute Festival, B list (Mouquet Pan et les Bergers) performed and worked on is masterclass at SW flute festival. Slow movement of C list performed at flute choir concert last November. Scales mostly there, barring random blonde moments. Aural competent apart from at final practice session! Sight reading better than it's ever been

I CAN DO THIS. I CAN PLAY THE PIECES. I CAN SING! I have a nice tone and good intonation most of the time. I CAN DO THIS!

Most of all, I need to relax and enjoy performing the pieces.
Appassionata
Thanks everyone. Lesson tonight was awful and fingers really hurt now sad.gif

Just back (via shop). No idea how I did or if I passed. Being as it's nearly 14 years since I last did an exam I have limited memory of what's required to get particular marks.

Mozart (Rondo in D) went generally pretty well. Maybe not the best I've ever played it, but not far off. Slight stumble on demisemis at the end, but stayed in time with piano and had some dynamics and character. Not sure I did as much as I have done, but didn't feel too bland.

Mouquet (Pan et les Bergers) - reckon I'll be lucky to pass this one. Major stumbles on most of the semi quaver passages, but managed to get it back together with the piano/relocate myself after each one. Think the lyrical/expressive bits were quite good, but the black bits went about as badly as they've ever done. Meh. Full on self fulfilling prophesy there - got into a negative mindset about this piece about 3 weeks ago, and never quite got out of it (was too late to have changed!)

Scales (decided against doing the C list straight away as a bit "wobbly" after the Mouquet's oops bits). Probably passed, some fantastic, some horrible, one complete disaster (Eb Harmonic minor).

Wellesz also pretty good, some random wrong notes/unintended acciacaturas but no catastrophes, and made the top Cs fine.

Sightreading - 6 lines long, but in A minor and fairly doable rhythm. Will admit that "Vivo" was more like "moderato" but I think I kept a sense of rhythm throughout and didn't lose count/get too many wrong notes that I know of.

Aural. Complete guess on Cadences and modulations - no idea if I was right or wrong, and don't care. D went OK - nice romantic waltz, and the two singing bits went well as well. I could hear the lowest part, and it was quite singable, so probably OK. Ran out of notes at the bottom though- should have sung it back up an octave! Slight wobble on sight singing, but better than I expected anyway.

Generally glad to have it over and done with, and if I've failed, I will have another go.
Appassionata
Well done randomsabreur, I'm sure you did alright by the sound of it.

I've just got back from my exam. I had a lovely examiner, but he was running 30 min late!
My pieces were generally okay, one long note cut short due to not breathing in the right place in the Bach and the last note of Circus flute ended up an octave higher (oops!). Sight reading was nearly a page long and had horrid rhythms. It was alright though and I only managed a clarinet fingering once for a high D!

However, Aural and Scales were dreadful! He asked me B major slurred first which was cruel. I then got G sharp melodic minor, Eb major, C melodic minor, E chromatic, C sharp dim, C dominant and Arpeggios were F major and Eb minor (which completely stumped me for some unknown reason). I managed to play them all in the end in some shape or form, but it was terrible sad.gif Aural wasn't much better. I couldn't remember all the lower part to sing back and my sight singing was only right till midway. Cadences and chords were okay, modulation was wrong (I realised after) and the final section was fine except again I forgot the end of the clapping section.

I'm hoping I've passed. Fingers crossed fingersCrossed.gif
