OK. Well. One of our Cardiff natives has tracked down a new venue - tenacious lot musicians.

I'm feeling a little bruised/embarrassed after being let down by our other two possibles so I would understand if you all wanted to forget about the event, but - on the off chance that any of you are still interested could you please either leave a note here or PM me. If there are enough to make it viable (say ten) names by Monday lunchtime say - I'll call the place and confirm. Our tenacious forumite has already confirmed they can do the 28th April - so date/times will be the same.

At the last one that Looney Tunes organised there were absolute beginners and post grade eight players, so I guess I assumed it'd be the same mix. Doh!

Ah! I have been diligently watching the original thread - sorry, I can be a bit slow keeping up!!
My birthday is a few days prior and when this event was cancelled my wife said she would look at ideas for a weekend treat - not sure now. I'll post back on this as soon as I know our plans.

btw - for us learners it is always a pleasure to here the playing skills of those who are essentially past being 'learners'. I think a learners day still needs the experienced musicians for the inspiration we get.

I just couldn't find a suitable venue. The one I'd provisionally booked with a view to checking it out when I was in Cardiff last week suddenly announced that we couldn't have the room after 2:30. After days of "yes, yes, we'd love to host you."

I chased up every lead I was given and spent days searching the web, ringing round and emailing people. I even spoke to the AB local rep - who was very helpful. There were rooms available, but the piano was a bag of bones; or the piano they'd had was on lone from the RWCMD and had been returned; or there was no parking; or they wanted a deposit that would require me to sell my violin to cover it; or they couldn't do that date; or the builders were in - you get the picture.

I tried. I really tried. I had been so excited about getting the event off the ground and so mindful of messing people about after the first venue fell through (that one was due to building work). Having been sent a list of half a dozen possibles by a Cardiff forumite, I figured one of them ought to be a goer. But nope. And I couldn't get anywhere else.

I'm quite upset about it TBH as I feel I've let everyone down. It was horrible having to type that the event was dead in the water. The one positive is that I'm really busy with teaching at the moment so I haven't got much time to brood.

I have to say, many of the venues were really helpful and gave me more places to try, but nothing came of it and on the bright side I now have a list of venues that do have pianos that are playable (and those that don't) so I'm sure that'll come in handy at a later date.

If Barry will re-arrange then so should I - plans re-arranged and I intend to be there.

There's another thread, later than this one, in which BadStrad says the event is cancelled (again).

That is very sad.
Having persuaded my wife to re-think my birthday event I guess I should let her go ahead as it will be difficult to stay home that day otherwise.
Sorry, if it gets re-planned I shall have to pass on this one now.
