Thinking of upgrading my bow...currently have a Coda Diamond NX which I am happy enough with but may like to try a heavier bow....sorry if a silly question, but does a heavier bow help with playing into the string a bit more?
Local violin shop stocks Water Violet bows ..never heard of them. If you have or own one I would welcome your feedback. Or could you recommend any bows around ?300 mark.
I will be going to try some out in the near future but just at the research stage at the moment.

Water Violet (Brazilian company) sells quite a lot of bows in Japan, apparently. Reviews on Japanese boards suggest that they are not bad for the price. I think this might be a case where several similar bows by the same company might not perform exactly the same...you should rely on how each one feels to you.

this is pretty much what i have heard, lot of variability, but can be very good vfm if chosen carefully.

I've never heard of them but wouldn't suggest to select a specific brand to go for considering there are endless amounts of other bows in your price range around. My advice is to go to a violin shop, tell them your budget and try everything within that There will be something for you, good luck!

A heavier bow could help you get more sound but it could also pose many other problems. I had a 70g violin bow on trial once, made my violin sound like a viola - but it was hard to control and use well. So I wouldnt suggest to look for a heavier one, just look for one that feels comfortable and all round usable.

Couldn't find any Water Violet bows but have one on trial ...a C F Ribeiro which I think I like. Will have to play all week before I make up my mind, but first impressions are good.

Sorry I'm a bit late to this thread. But just to say that the balance of the bow can make it feel lighter or heavier than it actually is. So don't judge a bow just by its weight in grams - judge by how it feels when you're playing.

Thanks..I don't even know the weight of the bow on trial at the moment ..I brought it home because it immediately felt right in my hand compared to others I tried. It probably is a bit heavier but I am going for the feeling when playing. I DO like it a lot, but this in itself has opened up a can of worms ...ie What if there is one out there that I like even more at the same price?
