Full Version: Choral opportunities for boys

I'm wondering what choral opportunities exist for boys from their voice change until 18, but more particularly the 16-18 year old stage. Girl cathedral choirs go up to 18 but how does a boy prepare for a choral scholarship to university other than through holiday courses? Some small churches may allow boys to continue after their voices change but are there any larger choral choirs that rehearse 3+ times a week for such boys.

Hi full of wind,

You don't say where the boy(s) will be located. But have a look at these.
I Hope this is a good starting point.

For anyone in reach of Manchester, Halle Youth Choir is brilliant.

Youngest son went last summer to audition but was not at all sure he wanted to join, after 1 rehearsal he loved it and is going on tour with them to Belgium in the summer as well as singing in a Prom smile.gif

Have you tried your local schools music service? Ours runs a male "broken voice" group. It's rather small, and it only meets once a week, so not quite what you're looking for, perhaps. The boys perform both by themselves (so virtually one to a part sometimes, which is doubtless good experience) and with the girls' chamber choir.
