Hello,

I am being a little indecisive about my DipABRSM programme...so many wonderful pieces to choose from! Here's what I'm thinking at the moment, any ideas on the following programme would be gratefully received.

Bach - Prelude and Fugue no. 16 in G minor
Beethoven - 'Pathetique' Sonata, C minor
Brahms - Intermezzo in A Op.118 no.2
Debussy - Sarabande, from Pour le Piano

That looks well balanced, although I'd go for lesser-chosen pieces. The Pathetique is played by lots of Dip entrants so the examiners will hear that piece a lot over the course of their examination.

Yes a Lorraine says, the balance is OK, but I agree its quite a well known programme, and I would always be inclined to include something less popular.

Apart from the Pathetique (which I agree the examiners must have heard a million times!) would you say the rest of my programme is on the over-played side?

If I did decide to go ahead with the current programme, would it matter if the Pathetique is a very popular choice? I just love it and think I could give a decent performance of it on the day.

No it doesnt matter you have a well known programme, its just that the examiners will know the pieces better, so more lily to spot mistakes or have thier own ideas about interpretation. The Debussy is also quite well known , and most examiners will know the Brahms and Bach as well

Thank you - I might consider Prokofiev's Visions Fugitives instead of the Debussy. It's quite an interesting work I think.

Just wish I had more time to practice now - everyday life has taken over, last couple of weeks!
