There is the debate as to whether the goal should've stood, but it was Liverpool's wrongdoing in the first place as a) it was one of their fans who thrown the ball onto the pitch, and b) I don't know when the ball was thrown onto the pitch in relation to when the goal was scored, but the goalkeeper or someone should've had some sense to move it beforehand

If I remember rightly, there was actually another beach ball or balloon or something behind or inside the goal before Sunderland scored...

Do I want Gibbo to sack Southgate? I actually like Southgate, but the results he's getting are non-existant. Problem is I'm not sure we'd be able to get anyone better.

I don't think sacking your manager will make any difference : if anything it's likely, at least at the moment, to give you even more instability...

But would it give us better tactics and results (and therefore happier players and more stability) in the longer term? If we changed now there would be plenty of time for a new person to bed down before the January transfer window.

I'm just not convinced that Southgate knows what he's doing anymore, and it's a shame because I do actually like him but I don't think he has what it takes to get us promoted.

Boro are still 4th though. I'm not convinced a managerial change will at the moment do you good, but time will tell...

Having seen the incident on MOTD2, it appeared that the beach ball was originally kicked inside the goal after it was thrown onto the pitch in an attempt to cause minimal interference, but it rolled out of the goal and into the six-yard area as Sunderland were about to attack, so not much the Liverpool players could've done...

Referee Mike Jones (who awarded the goal) will not officiate in the Premier League next weekend. His punishment: Peterborough v Scunthorpe instead
