My violin E string broke while I was practising today I'm using all Dominant strings before this, but I find the E string not really 'ringing' and the tone is not that rich compared to other G, D, and A strings. I wonder if it is because of my bowing technique or due to the quality of the E string. May I have your suggestions on what string to change to for my E string?
Thanks......

Hi,
I've just changed mine from Dominants to Corelli Crystal. They are still settling down but I'd say the tone is warmer than dominants and the E especially sounds better.

We've used dominant G D A strings with a Pirastro Tonica E and the combination was great,

The dominant E is rather notorious. Lots of people replace it with a Pirastro Gold Label E which apparently works nicely.

I'm glad it isn't just me - although I'm sure it's my technique at fault as well. Next time my E string breaks I'm going to treat myself to a better one!

Thanks, then I guess it isn't a bad thing that my violin string breaks. It may be time for me to experiment different strings Since I'm not particularly happy with my E string after I change to Dominant string, and my pieces consists of lots of high notes! Well, I don't feel so bad now, it's time for change.....and I'm looking towards that

And I'm happy I get to learn about this before I change mine into ALL dominant strings. I was thinking of doing in Grade 5 (hopefully!) sometime on.
Ahhh... exam in 8 days' time..
