Well done to him, they are amazing marks!

Thanks to you all. I've just checked the UCAS website (he trusted me with his password for that too) and he's definitely in. He's going to do Multimedia Technology and Design, starting in September 2006.

Brilliant - do tell him well done!

Congrats and relief all round !

Thanks, Maggie. What course is your daughter doing?

Thanks, Maggie. What course is your daughter doing?

Marketing and Communications at Lincoln. Oddly enough she got the better grades in subjects she's not studying at uni! - drama and religion / ethics.

It seems she was one of a small number of happy students at school this morning. Quite a few of her friends had really good grades, but not quite what their first choice had asked for. One or two who phoned clearing with "near misses" were rejected straight away. Several are having to be content with their "insurance" choice and are very disappointed - one of her best friends was in a state. It's tough.

And by the way I got a D for performing in A2 music - I have reasons to be worried see! tongue.gif

Yes, it's hard, isn't it? Kent was originally going to be my son's insurance offer, with Sussex (who wanted BBB) as his first choice. However, he really liked the course and the campus at Kent (despite seeing it on a horrible, sleety winter's day), and decided to reject everything else. It took all the pressure off, but I was just slightly concerned he didn't keep an insurance offer.

Well done, a fantastic achievement. What a good day it's been. biggrin.gif

Strange how quite a few of the musicians on these forums are also linguists. Do you think that having an ear for music and an ear for language could be related?

(Hope I get an invite to the wedding Nat! Does your Anglesey man know you're about to hit Bangor? ) wink.gif wink.gif

Yeah we'll all be on here with our uni qiestions now!

There was a poster in our music room for ages when I wa sin lower school:

Music is like a language: you have to practice it every day

So I suppose you could do it the other way round aswell! But isn't it true?!
saxlover
Next time we'll all be getting in a state over our degree results!

Nat going without the internet?? Never!

Bah, still another week till GCSE results. And all these people doing well makes me edgy.
Helen
To everyone who had results today: Did you get your results on the exam board slips?

When I had my GCSE results we had them on official watermarked exam board paper, but today my college just gave us a piece of paper with our grades and the mark breakdown typed up. What about the official thing?
Boo Radley
Hi everyone, whew you have all done brilliantly. I was a bit disappointed with my results:

Maths - A (by one mark!!)
Geography - B (absolutely gutted, I had 92% before these last two exams, somehow contrived to get an E and a U when I thought they had gone really well!! sad.gif )
Biology - C (fair enough but only 8 marks off a B grade)
Music - C (also only 8 marks off a B grade)

That makes me feel a little bit better about my D in performing.

There are so many well-wishing friends and relatives who tell me that I should be pleased with my results and I am sure that looking back in 10 years time I will be, but I am really gutted with geography (got 207/210 in january results) as I didn't even consider that not getting an A was a possibility. Also with music as it is my favourite subject and I really wanted a B. Still, never mind. Well done all you other A-levelers out there! smile.gif
saxlover
You're gutted with those results! ohmy.gif

I'd be made up with mine

My results look nothing compared with everyone else's sad.gif

We got ours on a Statement of Provisional Results with the mark breakdowns and stuff.

We get the certificates next year sometime

Congratulations smile.gif. Are you off to University this year? I haven't heard you mention where you're going.

I must also add additional congratulations too to Maggie's daughter, Andante's son(s) and of course to Boo Radley (don't be disappointed, did you get what you needed to do what you want next year?).

Then there's the delightful Cheeble with her excellent results too smile.gif, any idea which subjects the marks were in?

Well done everyone, and all around good day!

(I hope I haven't forgotten anyone, I've already done one congratulatory post for some other people so I'm not ignoring them!)
Boo Radley
I'm sorry I know it can sound really big-headed and snobbish saying I'm disappointed but the truth is I expected better grades than that. I know I was only 8 marks (1.25%) off Bs in Music and Biology but that doesn't change the fact that they are still Cs.

And I just cannot get my head around my geography result, I am either going to retake or get the exams remarked! You did excellently Nat, better grade than me in music and your instrumental abilities are better than I probably will ever be. smile.gif

Hi AP, as I am planning to do accountancy next year I was informed that an apprenticeship would be more beneficial than a degree so I have written to 35 different firms to see if they are willing to take me on. Had 8 (admittedly pleasant) letters of rejection this morning, still 27 possible employers. . . smile.gif

Music was an A obviously and a B in Maths. I can't remember what else she did

Hey!

I can't find the post with my results in it lol, I presume either Nat or Nicki did the honours?

Anyway. My results:
A in Music (586/600, whee!)
A in Physics
A in Chemistry (I can't wait to laugh at the chem dept, they predicted me a D!!)
B in Maths (was 8 marks off an A, but never mind)
Merit in Critical Thinking AEA
Merit in Physics AEA

Pretty pleased! Although am only sixth former in Bucks not going out to celebrate tonight; I'm way too tired and overwhelmed!! (I got pounced on by a load of local reporters who wanted my picture for the paper, it was very scary!) So I'm posting on here instead which is a much better way to spend my time.

It's kinda scary knowing that I'm definitely off to Cambridge now... better start getting my stuff together!!

Congratulations to everyone else on their fantastic results biggrin.gif

Cheeble that's amazing! What was yours (and Boo's) breakdown for music?

Nicki is away so I did the honours.

The other thread is called As A2 results

Yes I saw the other thread too - those marks are fantastic! You must be well pleased. We've missed you on here, but it was in a good cause !

Boo - so sorry you are disappointed. I'd go for that re-mark. Keep us posted as to how your plans work out.

awww that's a cute emoticon but i can't work out how to post it, lol im so computer-illiterate!!!

the best works are written in freezers. beethoven was partial to hiding in a freezer too, whereas mozart almost never came out of his own freezer. but ssshhh, it's a secret amongst composers. tongue.gif

No wonder i'm not very prolific composing then... my freezer is too small!

Our new, big frost-free (yippee! no more defrosting) chest freezer arrived yesterday, so maybe my composition skills will improve. laugh.gif

Congratulations, Boo, on a good set of marks, although I can understand your disappointment as well. Hope you get some positive offers from the accountants soon.
sarah-flute
laugh.gif I obviously need to add a freezer to my things-to-save-up-for list...

Thanks! I know a lot of people (mainly relatives) mean the best but it can get annoying when they tell you that you should be happy with results. They just seem to think that you get grades randomly picked, instead of getting grades relating to your work rate.
