It is as bad as having your teachers know!
*

Yes definitely! In a way I want to get this letter beforehand but I'll be so nervous opening it, because if it says unsuccesful then I might as well stay in bed on the 18th sad.gif
nicki_flute
Well, in a way it is worse teachers knowing because you are going to see them face to face, but when the unis send you a letter beforehand, it really isn't nice! Our school doesn't even open until 11.30, so I bet I'll be hearing from people who have got theirs before me...
saxlover
It's scary when you walk in and all the teachers are there already knowing what you've got and they look at you weirdly!
nicki_flute
*shifts on her seat nervously*
saxlover
I'm doing the same! Only 9 days to go now! AAAAAAAH!

All those years ago we got our results in the post - going into school for them wasn't an option. We lived in a rural area where our post arrived really late- it was horrible waiting for the postman when other people had got their results hours before me.
noodle
Same here. We got our results by post too. It was awful because we live in a rural area and our post arrived hours after everyone elses. I was tortured as averyone kept phoning me to see how I did and when I heard their results it made me panic even more.
nicki_flute
Well luckily for me I can get to school, but the waiting is going to kill me. ARGH!
elmo
I wish they came by post, because I never want to do any talking when I get to school, until I have my results. And even then the last couple of times I haven't said much!
Hulk
Congratulations to all the Scottish students who received there results today! Well Done! smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif
bassmadmatt
Oh dear, results day! sad.gif My predicted grades are all below 'C'! dry.gif Luckily me and my friends have a crazy sense of humour, and will be able to laugh off our results whatever we get! tongue.gif It'll be truly hilarious if we pass French! biggrin.gif

Matt the lighthearted GCSE-failer! wink.gif cool.gif
nicki_flute
Well, in my head I have high expectations, so knowine me, I'll be disappointed even if they are really good!
noodle
Anyone from Scotland here get their results today?
SuzyMac
The universities do know in advance, and your teachers do as well - at least one day before. At least it makes it easy when you have to phone up to see if your results are good enough, they already know you and what the decision is.

I wouldn't worry about the UCAS letter - my friends and I all got one and our offers ranged from AAB to Unconditional!!

*Good luck everyone*
nicki_flute
Yes, but with your teachers knowing, if you see them before you get your results, then it could influence how you think you've done.

I'll just go in looking at the floor, get what I need and go home and stay there and not go to uni

I got my results from the head of 6th form - who'd conveniently forgotted that I needed AAB and gave me the results saying well done, brilliant - thinking ABB(A) was just that - it took a little while to realise the results *were* good - just not good enough. It didn't matter in the end, I still got in, but it's a heart-stopping moment when you think it's all gone wrong.

I was in hospital after a car crash until about 6 hours before my results! It does stop you worrying about the results, but it's not a great idea rolleyes.gif
saxlover
MY head of 6th form will probably conveniently forget what I need and say something stupid. Or tell me I've not got in if I have or something mean!
elmo
I hate it when you get given the piece of paper, look at the results, think you've read it wrong, heart bellyflops about a foot into your stomach and then realise that actually it's ok...

OR

as what happened to me at AS results day: when you look at the piece of paper, look at the results, realised you haven't read it wrong, got a D in German, know you could've done better and think "oh @#*? I'm going to have to do it all again because a) you need to, and b ) even if I didn't, you wouldn't be satisified!

laugh.gif Reminds me of a time when we got end of year physics marks back and our teachers writing is really hard to read. My friend looked through her paper and saw that she got loads wrong but was still pleased that she got an 'A'....until i pointed out that it wasnt (as she had truthfully thought, a slightly lopsided 'A' but a 'D'..... biggrin.gif
saxlover
I got a B once in my Chemistry module at GCSE, all my other ones had been D's and my teacher gave me my result with the most shocked look ever, I was thinking eeek,I've totally failed but she was just so shocked!

We get a letter the day before results day saying whether our place is "unconditional" or "unsuccessful". I'm in 2 minds as to whether I should open it!
*

eeeek!

well, at least whichever way it means the tension is over a little sooner - i would not have been able to resist opening it just so I knew one way or the other...

QUOTE(nicki_flute @ Aug 9 2005, 08:22 AM)
That sounds really cruel...do the universities know your grades before you do?
*

Yup, it's for admin basically I think (so that they know how many they have coming, whether they will have spaces available for clearing, if students have narrowly missed but they decide that they did well enough at interview to be considered etc) but it still seems a bit mean really, and horrible of places to send you letters about clearing when you think they might know your results and "does this mean I failed them all??!"

Because of my very discouraging music teachers and knowing that I had written masses of rubbish in my music history paper (which was the one they said I would do OK in) I had a major panic when i got my results... I needed BBB (well it was a points offer but the system has changed so anyway it worked out as BBB basically or ABC) I got A in Eng. Lit. thought "good, that's what I was hoping for", got B in French, thought "yep, that's what I was expecting!!, now all I need is a C in art" (thinking I would most likely get a really low grade in music from what my teachers had said) then got to my art result and I'd only got a D! PANIC! "I KNEW I hadn't done enough coursework, I should not have listened to my teacher!" - then I got to my music mark thinking "Oh please let me have scraped a C!" - and I got a B! And almost fell over in shock. And so when everyone was asking what marks I had got I totally ignored the others and was going "I got a B in music....! I got a B in music!!!!!!!!!!"
elmo
That's a nice story! I won't get a C in German and I need BBC. Hopefully General studies will be ok.
saxlover
I won't get a C in Sociology- all I can hope for is that Bangor take me anyway
nicki_flute
I really think my results are mixed, I don't want to know.
cello86
I need to get a B in music, to get into uni. I'm not too worried about my other grades.
sarah-flute
elmo, I was predicted an E/N in Music, so don't give up hope just yet! I'm sure you did your best, and that is the main thing. Pretty much everyone I know, whether they got to go to their first choice uni or not, thinks that the uni they went to is the best and they would not have wanted to go elsewhere.... so... try not to worry about it!!
elmo
lol is N a national thing?! I thought it was just Mr Hinde having us on!! laugh.gif
mrbouffant
We always thought "N" was "Nearly" lol smile.gif
Fred
I'm about to disappear on holiday, so I'll miss all your results. So here is an advance

CONGRATULATIONS!!! biggrin.gif

and, for those who feel the need (although I'm sure no-one will):

commiserations!

If your results aren't exactly what the uni asked for, don't panic until you've called them. They quite often back down when the results come out and decide they'll accept less. And there's always clearing. smile.gif

Oh so maybe it is still Mr Hinde having us on?! blink.gif
sarah-flute
I got the idea that it was sort of between an E and a straight downright "fail"...
elmo
That's what we got told- a Nearly like MrBouffant said? As in Nearly a pass? Or nearly a fail?!

Which one would be worse!?
sarah-flute
Nearly a fail I THINK would be better, as it implied you almost failed but didn't actually, whereas nearly a pass would say you almost passed but actually you failed!! But it depends how you look at it I suppose.

We were always told it stood for 'near-miss' in that you were just short of what was needed to get an E.
saxlover
8 days almost 7 *scary face*
recorderzrule
hm 14 still for me sad.gif
saxlover
I bet you''' get fab results though! I'm awating all U's!! Very nerve raacking
recorderzrule
what subjects did u take?
saxlover
Music, English Lang + Lit combined, Sociology
recorderzrule
cool, bet youve done great cool.gif
saxlover
I don't!!

Then again I don't mind as long as I get into uni without the C in sociology, but it's my parents reaction I'm worried about
purple dolphin
Forget about your parents. As long as you are happy, then that's all that matters.
