It is as bad as having your teachers know!
Yes definitely! In a way I want to get this letter beforehand but I'll be so nervous opening it, because if it says unsuccesful then I might as well stay in bed on the 18th

Aug 9 2005, 08:56 AM
Well, in a way it is worse teachers knowing because you are going to see them face to face, but when the unis send you a letter beforehand, it really isn't nice! Our school doesn't even open until 11.30, so I bet I'll be hearing from people who have got theirs before me...

It's scary when you walk in and all the teachers are there already knowing what you've got and they look at you weirdly!

All those years ago we got our results in the post - going into school for them wasn't an option. We lived in a rural area where our post arrived really late- it was horrible waiting for the postman when other people had got their results hours before me.

Same here. We got our results by post too. It was awful because we live in a rural area and our post arrived hours after everyone elses. I was tortured as averyone kept phoning me to see how I did and when I heard their results it made me panic even more.

Well luckily for me I can get to school, but the waiting is going to kill me. ARGH!

I wish they came by post, because I never want to do any talking when I get to school, until I have my results. And even then the last couple of times I haven't said much!

Oh dear, results day!

My predicted grades are all below 'C'!

Luckily me and my friends have a crazy sense of humour, and will be able to laugh off our results whatever we get!

It'll be truly hilarious if we pass French!

Aug 9 2005, 12:32 PM
The universities do know in advance, and your teachers do as well - at least one day before. At least it makes it easy when you have to phone up to see if your results are good enough, they already know you and what the decision is.
I wouldn't worry about the UCAS letter - my friends and I all got one and our offers ranged from AAB to Unconditional!!
*Good luck everyone*

Yes, but with your teachers knowing, if you see them before you get your results, then it could influence how you think you've done.

I got my results from the head of 6th form - who'd conveniently forgotted that I needed AAB and gave me the results saying well done, brilliant - thinking ABB(A) was just that - it took a little while to realise the results *were* good - just not good enough. It didn't matter in the end, I still got in, but it's a heart-stopping moment when you think it's all gone wrong.
I was in hospital after a car crash until about 6 hours before my results! It does stop you worrying about the results, but it's not a great idea

MY head of 6th form will probably conveniently forget what I need and say something stupid. Or tell me I've not got in if I have or something mean!

I hate it when you get given the piece of paper, look at the results, think you've read it wrong, heart bellyflops about a foot into your stomach and then realise that actually it's ok...
OR
as what happened to me at AS results day: when you look at the piece of paper, look at the results, realised you haven't read it wrong, got a D in German, know you could've done better and think "oh @#*? I'm going to have to do it all again because a) you need to, and b ) even if I didn't, you wouldn't be satisified!

Reminds me of a time when we got end of year physics marks back and our teachers writing is really hard to read. My friend looked through her paper and saw that she got loads wrong but was still pleased that she got an 'A'....until i pointed out that it wasnt (as she had
truthfully thought, a slightly lopsided 'A' but a 'D'.....

well, at least whichever way it means the tension is over a little sooner - i would not have been able to resist opening it just so I knew one way or the other...
QUOTE(nicki_flute @ Aug 9 2005, 08:22 AM)
That sounds really cruel...do the universities know your grades before you do?
Yup, it's for admin basically I think (so that they know how many they have coming, whether they will have spaces available for clearing, if students have narrowly missed but they decide that they did well enough at interview to be considered etc) but it still seems a bit mean really, and horrible of places to send you letters about clearing when you think they might know your results and "does this mean I failed them all??!"

Because of my very discouraging music teachers and knowing that I had written masses of rubbish in my music history paper (which was the one they said I would do OK in) I had a major panic when i got my results... I needed BBB (well it was a points offer but the system has changed so anyway it worked out as BBB basically or ABC) I got A in Eng. Lit. thought "good, that's what I was hoping for", got B in French, thought "yep, that's what I was expecting!!, now all I need is a C in art" (thinking I would most likely get a really low grade in music from what my teachers had said) then got to my art result and I'd only got a D! PANIC! "I KNEW I hadn't done enough coursework, I should not have listened to my teacher!" - then I got to my music mark thinking "Oh please let me have scraped a C!" - and I got a B! And almost fell over in shock. And so when everyone was asking what marks I had got I totally ignored the others and was going "I got a B in music....! I got a
B in music!!!!!!!!!!"

elmo, I was predicted an E/N in Music, so don't give up hope just yet! I'm sure you did your best, and that is the main thing. Pretty much everyone I know, whether they got to go to their first choice uni or not, thinks that the uni they went to is the best and they would not have wanted to go elsewhere.... so... try not to worry about it!!

If your results aren't exactly what the uni asked for, don't panic until you've called them. They quite often back down when the results come out and decide they'll accept less. And there's always clearing.

Which one would be worse!?
sarah-flute
Aug 10 2005, 10:48 AM
Nearly a fail I THINK would be better, as it implied you almost failed but didn't actually, whereas nearly a pass would say you almost passed but actually you failed!! But it depends how you look at it I suppose.
