I've just taken one of these, a 500mg one. How long will it take to work and when can I take another?

Usually you take 2 every 4 hours and no more than 8 in 24 hours, mine always take about an hour to work....awww poor Nat!

I'll resist the urge to pull out the finger-wagging smilie....

Plenty of fluids is the best help, also you can have an Ibuprofen/aspirin as well as paracetamol if you've got a headache with it.

I have I blinding headache today too, just taken my second lot of "Anadin Extra" which seem to contain every known painkiller, and all I had last night was a glass of elderflower cordial and spring water!!!

Drink plenty of water and eat something like toast if you can (or some Mr Kiplings Fancies LOL!). 2 x 500mg Paracetomol every 4 hours until you feel better is what I suggest.

Paracetamol is a drug to be treated with some care. IMO it is more dangerous than morphine and heroin. An overdose of paracetamol causes lethal liver damage: if not treated within a short time (one or two days?) death results about four days later. It has become a more popular drug than aspirin because of the bleeding effect that solid aspirin can have on the stomach wall, but some people never suffer from this, and most people can avoid the effect by taking soluble aspirin or chewing the tablets well before swallowing them. I take 75 mg. of soluble aspirin every day and never notice any problem. I never take paracetamol.

A safer version of paracetamol has been invented: the pill contains a mild emetic, which is not noticed with a normal dose, but causes an overdose to be vomited back before it can cause damage. Unfortunately, AFAIK, the drug companies refuse to make this, because their market research tells them that the public would not pay a higher price for it.

Still, you'd better take your temperature. Normally feverish people ALWAYS feel cold and shiver although they are really burning up inside.
Keep some water close at hand and sip often.
Aspirin does thin out some people's blood and cause them to bleed longer though. I get nosebleeds quite bad if I take aspirin everyday even at a very small dosage.

Yes, do be careful not to take more than the dosage suggested on the package... especially after drinking which has already put your liver on all systems go!

DO drink LOTS of water... and in future drink lots of water pre and post drinking and before you go to bed - lots of fluids will reduce the chance of a horrible hangover.

And of course, there's always the "drink less" option!

Hi Ann. Well I'm guessing I'm allowed back on...no my dad isn't still at the gym ....if he was he would be very, very fit....which, well, lets say he isn't!

I can't promise anything...It'll be the first time in ages that me and all my mates have been together for a long time...we might end up in a boat heading for France...who knows?

Or you might just end up with your dad in the gym altogether and get super-fit France sounds nice though... Eiffel Tower and all! Unless... of course.. you walk into it. :ouch:

Alas, the day after suffering is something you just have to go through.
My approach is a can of coke and a bacon or sausage sandwich. Plenty of sugar in the coke to pep you up, the CO2 in the bubbles helps the tum, and the sandwich is a good dose of protein and fat to keep the rest of your body happy. Helps with the shivers too.

And then I resolve "never again...". But tomorrow I'm going to the Square - so it'll have to be a champagne cocktail to start, then a bottle of wine, then port... Oh well.
