hi Jack!!
there are only 2 people in my music class and for composition we have both done a pop song, and for the other one I have linked it to Mendelssohn by structuring it in sonata form.(not sure what my mate has done!!)
My teacher has given us a list of what we need to revise so ill give it to you and hopefully it will help!!
Mendelssohn- background to comp, concert overtures, sonata form, instrumentation and learn some quotes for the essay part if you choose to write on this piece!!
Mozart- background to comp, galant style, rondo form, viennese classical music style, how he varied the theme in each variation, binary/rounded binary form, antecedent/consequent and quotes!!!!!
Handel- background to comp and anthems, instrumentation, texture, trumpet restrictions, ritornello principle, influences of diff countries, fugue/double fugue, phrygian cadence, suspensions, melismatic writing, notes inegales and quotes!!!!
Some of the things ive said are little things like suspensions and stuff but it will all help. it is quite important that you know a few quotes for each piece because in your essay you will need to make references to parts of the music and there is not better way than using quotes!! also lasts years paper included a question where you had to listen to part of mendelssohn and fill in the music- even if you cant get it from listening to it , if you know the quote wahoo your sorted!!!
err..... sorry for the long post hope it makes sense!!!
good luck for the exam......8th of June......... aaaaaaahahahhhh!!!!
