Im really sorry Harriet. sad.gif

dont feel too down because you weren't that far off passing and on another day you could have got a merit of something.
what were the examiners comments and did you just mess up on the pieces or the extra tests?
as you only failed by a few marks im sure you could easily take it again with just a little extra preparation.

Nat

ps-cheer up and congrats on your flute result!!

Oh no, so sorry - you must be really gutted.

Did the examiner's remarks give you any clues as to which bits need working on?

sorry to hear that harriet sad.gif just be glad it was grade 7 and not grade 1! it is much easier to fail at the higher grades because of the higher standard of performance required. I'm currently awaiting the results of my grade 7 viola - also my first grade 7 exam...im not too confident about the results.
have a look at your comment sheet to see what you need to improve on and talk to you teacher about it. its not like you failed by miles, only 5 marks...so maybe you might not have to retake the exam.

What a shame about your piano sad.gif

What comments did the examiner write?

But well done for getting such a great mark for your flute exam biggrin.gif

Don't worry about it... probably a bad day? Anyway you can't have had a serious problem if you didn't feel it went badly... maybe a few little things added together?..... cheer up though.... it's sunny outside! Next time you 'll do better once you've taken in some of the examiners comments

Hi harriet, I know how you feel as a couple of years ago i failed my grade 8 piano, I was marked 94, However, I retook the exam in the next session and by having that extra time to practice I ended up with 128. Its possible that the examiner may have felt you had much more potential to show at the higher grades and so felt that by retaking the exam you could show your true capabilities. I know this isn't any consolation, but these things happen for a reason and im sure you'll get a remarkably high mark the next time round. Try not to be too disappointed...my remedy...lots of chocolate!

Like the others have said - well done on your excellent flute exam result!

Why do some of us always worry about what we DIDN'T do well at? mad.gif We should be celebrating what we did achieve biggrin.gif

Hey Harriet,

I failed my grade 8 piano so I'm speaking from experience here. I know how gutted you must be but you have to look at it in a positive way ( i know you probably won't feel like it now - but you will do)

Take the time to read what the examiner wrote. I screwed mine up and ended up fishing it out the bin a while later when I'd calmed down a bit. Generally exminers give quite constructive comments. Discuss these with your teacher and work out a plan of action (sounds sad i know!)

Don't look at it as a failure. Yes ok, you did fail but it's a fact of life and it means you won't get complacent and take things for granted. It made me so much more determined and I put in more more hard work and practice - I was determined to pass it with a good mark. It made me stronger and much better player (and I hope teacher) beacause I knwo that i will Be able to help a pupil if they were ever to fail (I have a 100% success rate so far with my pupils but I know the day will come when someone will fail).

Failure is a terrible word. They say when you fall off a horse to get back on straight away. Do the same here. Take the examiners comments on boars and go fo rit again.

Believe in yourself - you can do it!

Good luck! smile.gif

Hello

My pieces were just under. I passed on the other stuff. I was 3 marks down on piece 1 and 1 each on the other too sad.gif It was a really old piano so next time my piano teacher is taking me to a different place with a better piano. Comments were such as "slipping fingers" and "uneven balance on keys". He said I had to keep going so i guess I will
