Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any workbook out there which focuses solely on ornaments (eg. mordent, trill, turn, etc). I need a lot of brushing up on ornaments, and the theory workbooks that I have only contains very little exercises on this chapter.

If anyone has any info on this, please tell me more.

Thanks!

Ornaments & Abbreviations by William Lovelock.

My copy is ancient,so I don't know whether it's still in print. it cost me £2.35 back then!

I will do a search and get back to you.

Yes,it's still available and priced at £3.95.

If you are looking for other lovelock books, there is a very good seller ( I have bought from her ) on Ebay uk. Just do a search on Lovelock and it will come up.

Hi Semele,

Thanks for the recommendation. I've done a search on that book online and it's really a HANDBOOK. Am I right? I would really like to get a theory book with exercises for me to do, so that I can get a better understanding on ornaments. Do you know of any? Nonetheless, I'll still check out that handbook you've recommended in the music stores.

Thanks so much! biggrin.gif

" This little book is an expansion of notes which I have found of great use in preparing pupils for LRAM etc. The working of question on ornaments seems to give a good deal of trouble to many candidates, owing to the variety of interpretations which are possible.I have tried, therefore,to systematise the matter, and in my own teaching have found the method quite successful" William Lovelock.

The book explains ornaments and their realisations. Then there follows exercises and solutions.

Hope it helps and it's worth checking out.

You have had a peep at the AB Pink book? The old red one ( now deleted ) was pretty good too.Bet you can still get hold of one if you want!

I think there might also be a book on ornaments published by Alfred but I don't know what it's like, having only seen a picture of the cover in one of their leaflets - ornamentation: a question and answer manual. look here Don't know if it would be what you're looking for though. Has anyone else seen it?

Oh wow. I had forgotten WL. That takes me right back to my music college days. Lovelock wrote just about every book that was recommended to us. My entire music college history came out of his book - called 'Form and History', I think.

Yes, I've got the AB Pink book some time back. Ok since there're some exercises in the Lovelock book, I'll consider getting it.

Thanks for all your help.
