I think this Yamaha thing he is talking about may be a teaching method a bit like Suzuki. unsure.gif

ABRSM is just a board of exams, it's not a teaching method

Is there such things as Yamaha exams? And if it is a teaching method........I've never heard of it!

At my daughter's school they were running a Yamaha Music School for a while but I don't really know much about it apart from it involved group teaching and I think they used digital/electric keyboards, although I may be wrong on the latter part.

Yamaha is a music school (also a music education system) and also have graded exams and is famous in asia pacific region. It comes from Japan.

I am learning graded piano Yamaha system here in my country, and its grade system go backwards:

students grade : grade 13 to grade 6
teacher grade : grade 5 to grade 3

But its grade level is the same with both ABRSM and AMEB (Australia) as also a common thing here to take that exams, but beside learning classic reportoires at higher grades (grade 5 to 3) we must learn music arrangement which is awfully difficult. And also at these grades we must take 2 exams in each grade then awarded the certificate.

Of course you people living in England and European continent hardly ever heard about this rolleyes.gif
