Do not look at the latest offerings on the ugh! thread.

My heart rate is still not back to normal.

Please be considerate about photos you post. Arachnophobia is very common - we can't help it, honestly. sad.gif

Arachnophobia = fear of spiders, in case you are in any doubt.
Semele
Luckily I just saw the top part of a leg.I knew what was coming.
katyjay
Thanks for the warning - a fraction too late for me but may help other sufferers.

I'm going to report this post I'm making to the mods - referencing the Ugh! thread, to ask if the problem pictures could be removed.

If you put them there - please put them on another website with a URL link, so people can see them if they want to, but dont' have to if they don't want.
Semele
If the member is still about they can edit their posting.
katyjay
PLEASE would they do so, and post to inform us that it's done.
maggiemay
Just a small gesture - have added a further post to the thread in question - so that the unwary reader isn't immediately faced with the picture.
Semele
Yes please.Because we won't be able to read other members postings that appear after the pic.
andante_in_c
Did anyone stay long enough to notice who posted it? A pm might do the trick.
Semele
It was Storini I think.
katyjay
I think it was Storini, but I'm afraid I'm not going back to check.
Fred
Thanks for the warning, you saved me! ohmy.gif
Semele
They are off line. But you can still email them. I've just sent them an email.
andante_in_c
Probably posted and ran.

I'm not going to risk email. Don't want to get anything nasty in my inbox as well.
Semele
I don't think they posted the pic thinking they were going to inflict mass heart attacks here. But they might have been a little bit more thoughtful about what they doing.

We would be grateful if someone who is not frightened by spiders will post here when it's gone.

Thanks.
katyjay
I would suggest as a precaution to hit "Ignore user" for that person for the time being.

And contact the moderator by reporting your own post on this thread, to explain the problem. Hopefully if enough of us complain it'll get removed.

Katyjay

Follow up: Christine is checking it out.

Thanks Christine.

maggiemay
It seems to have been removed now - I have just checked!
CMORRIS
I can confirm that the spider picture has been removed. Apologies to anyone who found it disturbing.

Best wishes

Christine
Semele
Many thanks,Christine.
andante_in_c
Thanks for the prompt response, Christine.
katyjay
Thanks Christine.

Shall we start a Forums Arachnophobia Support Group? we've al crawled out of the woodwork now.

On reflection, that probably wasn't the best way of putting it... ph34r.gif

Ooh don't Andante, I've gone all goosepimply now!

I used to be arachnaphobic, but then we lived in Australia for a couple of years (which was a nightmare as far as spiders go, although a fantastic country in every other respect).

Since coming back my phobia improved hugely, because nothing but nothing is going to be as big as the monsters over there. So, that's my tip - spend a couple of years in Oz, and your fears will be at least halved, if not more!

And many thanks Christine for removing the picture. I'm not sure that I would have wanted to see it. Did you have to put a glass over it and slide a card under it, and then take it at least 100 yards away from the Forum to make sure it couldn't find its way back?

Odd how Amber's post doesn't actually make me want to spend time in Australia. blink.gif

Don't let my post put you off. It's a brilliant, wonderful, lovely country with fantastic people, a great way of life, and I would love to go back there again.
It's just got this one downside......! (Well, two if you count the poisonous snakes, but I'm not phobic about them).

And its not as tho the spiders were terrorising the streets in gangs or anything!

My husband removed one almost as big as the one in the picture from our living room two nights ago. He scooped it up in his two hands and took it outside. I have rarely seen one as large in this country - I'm not seriously phobic, but I could not have picked it up. Just possibly - if I'd been in the house on my own - I could have scooped it into a VERY LARGE plastic jug with a big piece of card and removed it - but I'm not sure and I'm glad I didn't need to try!

Smaller ones I can deal with, and I don't much mind the really spindly big ones.

Yes - thanks Christine!
Amber
Unfortunately it's that time of year for them, isn't it.

And apparently there's a crane fly epidemic this year too.

Do you mean that some of you lot with arachnaphobia can actually scoop spiders up in jugs? blink.gif
If they are smaller that a 20p coin then I will drop my 'encyclopedia of music' on them then run for it. Any bigger and I leave the job to someone else, as long as they don't forget.
Oh and wales has it's fair share of monsterous spiders as well. sad.gif

Ewww, I personally find a squished spider more horrible than a live one. I quite like spiders.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
I am slightly arachnaphobic..big ones make me squeamish! Lucky i wasnt there to see the pic! Small spiders scare me too but I'm trying to conquer that part of the phobia..

Mmmm - me too. They are really useful in the garden because they eat some of the pesky things that eat my plants!
sarah-flute
Some of you confirmed arachnophobes sound braver than me. If they are of reasonable size I can deal with them, given a piece of card and a sufficiently large container, but I don't like them and won't touch them...
shimmer
Touch them? EEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKK!!!!!!!!! sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

One of my close friends is arachnophobic but his sister isn't and she puts spiders in his bed. Thankfully my sister doesn't really like spiders and if she did I've told her I would shut her in a room with a hornet. She has a purple rubber tarantula that sometimes finds it's way into my shoes.....it actually looks quite realistic ignoring the colour. sad.gif

Sorry for going completely off topic here but... ohmy.gif Wow I've always wanted to go to Australia and Sweden ever since I was a wee nipper. Didn't you find the heat difference immense?

You might get some more inspiration if you go to the site which caused all the original fuss which is linked below.
DO NOT FOLLOW THIS LINK IF YOU DON'T LIKE SPIDERS!!!
http://www.xs4all.nl/~ednieuw/australian/h...n/Huntsman.html - click the HOME link on that page to see even more of them.

It is possible to go on a course at London Zoo to reduce arachnophobia, as described here: http://www.zsl.org/london-zoo/news/scared-...ders,20,NS.html (there are no spiders shown in this link). It does appear quite successful in reducing the phobia from what they claim.

yeh, like i wouldn't brush off a money-spider but i'm cautious to catch the larger garden ones to put outside because they can nip you enuf to sting if youre allergic to spider bites. the very small ones and the ones that vibrate or wiggle round if you touch them are difficult to catch. i wouldn't kill one. i don't like killing anything.

I think that's more reasonable caution than arachnophobia.... Phobia is irrational fear isn't it?
