I got 120 for a violin exam where my teacher (who was quite appalling BTW!!) actually forgot to mention that there were tests other than the pieces!!

That's shocking blink.gif Bad teaching indeed... But hey, you mustn't have done too badly if you got 120! wink.gif
bobziekins
One of my friends got 96 out of 100 on a trinity exam ohmy.gif which is the same as 144/150 I think (if my maths is right..)
She just missed 4 marks on sightreading, and that was it. Full marks for pieces, scales and aural blink.gif
It was grade 2 piano, and she has been playing for 4 or 5 five years.

My best was 93/100 for grade 3 flute, I was SO proud.

I got 143 for Grade 6 piano. yay.gif biggrin.gif And in October, my piano teacher rang up and informed me that I had won the Sheila Mossman Prize for Pianoforte (joint). huh.gif I didn't even know it existed... laugh.gif

Dear MadBassoonist,

I have just read this and would like to tell you that you won the prize with my son!!

Nice to make your virtual acquaintance!!!!!!!!!!!
flobiano
There are a lot of people with very high marks here! ohmy.gif

The highest I've ever got was 130 which I got for my grade 1 piano and grade 7 flute. I was thrilled as I never thought I'd be able to get close to a disctinction in a higher grade!

I got 143 for grade 6 piano as well. So I won the prize ( The letter told me it is joint prize.) How many people got this prize?? My hightest mark is 146 for grade 2 piano exam.

My highest was grade one piano: 127. My wife's highest was grade four oboe: 145. The highest for one of my pupils was: 142 - that was grade 2 piano.

That's amazing! HOW on earth did she do it??? She must have got the highest mark in the country. My niece got the highest mark for piano in the States which was no big deal, really as there may be others higher than her but not in the States! I don't think she is that good, really especially it's not even her fav instrument. Her fav and love of her life was her viola and she's good at this instead. But, knowing the American mentality, well, they asked her to go on TV! tongue.gif

I understand from a very experienced teacher that no one ever get beyond 145. Can someone on the forum prove me wrong? Any 146??? biggrin.gif

I got 136 twice in grade 4 and 6, but then the higher grades were jsut scraping 130 because of my terrrible aural, and bad sightreading and scales....

my brother got 135 in grade 3 too.

i also know my cello teacher said two of her most amazing pupils got 148 and 149 in their grade 8!
Solari
I really don't understand how you can get 146+ without slipping the examiner a brown envelope stuffed with cash! tongue.gif

I so desperately wanted to match the 143 I got for Gr1 piano but my exam date for G3 came way too early and I was really not properly prepared at all sad.gif
Tixylix
My highest is 138 for grade 1 and 3 violin (11 and 10 years ago respectively). I'll be most chuffed if I match that again, never mind exceed it! I also got 100% for grade 1 theory.

kathrobert
142 for grade 1 bassoon - Yey!

Never came close with anything else though - all nice safe merits for piano and clarinet

My daughter got a mark of 142 for her Viola grade 3 - over the moon!

as of this week, 141 for Jazz Alto Sax Grade 1! biggrin.gif

Many congratulations to your 137 in grade 4 , when did you take the exam? As my daughter took her violin exam last week and just wonder how long will it take for the result to come back…..
Stephen.Betts
I sat my exam on Friday 12th March and got the results online (I think!) on Monday 22nd of March and a day later in the post - so really quick! The certificate was dated (bottom in small print) 19th of March.

I understand some can take longer, due presumably to results moderation and quality control.

Best of luck to your daughter!

Hey Guys

I play piano and violin and I also sing too. I am 13 years old and for my grade 8 piano I scored 139! I had never recieved a distinction for piano so I was amazed when I recieved such a high mark. Also Ive just completed my grade 7 violin and scored 132 for that. My highest for violin is 139- grade 1! I also picked up singing 2 years ago- I am currently waiting for my grade 8 results but my grade 4 score was 142 and grade 6 score was 138!

I still think that there is an element of showing off in this thread. High marks in grade exams don't always reflective the skill or amount or practice of the candidate. Some people just don't perform well in exams.

Yes and I think it is great to have a thread like this where people can have their moment - and why not, they've worked hard.
If people suddenly started mentioning how great they are; how many marks they scored; how fast they learned their instrument etc all over the place in all kinds of threads then that would get a bit much.
As it is, if people are not interested/object to the thread they don't have to read it.

I certainly think that if poeple object to a thread they can stop reading it. I am just not very keen on people showing off, especially if it is at the expense of someone else.

FWIW I tend to agree so this is the first (and last) time I shall look in here. However, if this a place where people can sound off about their marks and not bore others then I'm all for it. Sometimes those around us just don't appreciate the difference between a pass and a triumph.

Just doesn't seem British, though. wink.gif (And I'm perfectly well aware that many on here are NOT British.)

She may well be a good teacher but it doesn't always follow that a good musician transfers to a good teacher !!

On topic... I don't see the point of this thread unless you only wish to blow your own trumpet, you have to take into account a lot of factors come exam time, nerves being the most important.

Your ability may be a lot better than your exam mark if you suffer from nerves. smile.gif

Do they EVER give 150? dry.gif

I took part in the first Cambridge Grade-One-A-Thon which raised ?55,000 for a children's hospice charity. 150 music teachers had to undertake to pass AB grade 1 on an instrument they had no prior experience of. Everyone passed (everyone who turned up, that is - I suspect there were quite a few no-shows) and the scarier part was the big orchestral concert we had to play afterwards.

I got 127 for my trumpet - SO nervous! some of my notes juddered. And I lost three marks for a note-perfect sight-reading because he said there was too much vibrato (maybe I like mariachi?) I was gutted as there were so many distinctions. So gutted that I took grade 2 the following term to get 137.

However, the highest that any of them got was 147. And these were experienced professional musicians. So I hope you can pardon my scepticism

I have been told many times that examiners are not "allowed" to give full marks for more than one piece, seems possibly to be the case judging from a few exceptionally talented musicians that I know who gained 30 29 29 but perfect comments for all pieces.

The thread does say 'in your exams' - maybe they are adding together all the marks they got from a succession of fails?

I get 120 a lot. Which is good, because at my school if you get a Merit or above they pay for the exam smile.gif

I got 120 in Grade 3 and 4 violin, and in Grade 5 and 6 flute (I think? Definitely grade 5...). I got 109 in Grade 4 flute (having just switched from Trinity, so the scales were a big shock). I got 135 in Grade 5 violin after my teacher made me wait FOREVER before taking it! (And he still thought I'd only get a merit). I got 136 in Grade 1 piano, but it was my third instrument and grade one isn't too hard. And I got, guess what, 120 in my Grade 2 piano! smile.gif
