My highest was grade one piano: 127. My wife's highest was grade four oboe: 145. The highest for one of my pupils was: 142 - that was grade 2 piano.

That's amazing! HOW on earth did she do it??? She must have got the highest mark in the country. My niece got the highest mark for piano in the States which was no big deal, really as there may be others higher than her but not in the States! I don't think she is that good, really especially it's not even her fav instrument. Her fav and love of her life was her viola and she's good at this instead. But, knowing the American mentality, well, they asked her to go on TV! tongue.gif

I understand from a very experienced teacher that no one ever get beyond 145. Can someone on the forum prove me wrong? Any 146??? biggrin.gif

I heard (on the ABRSM forums) that someone got 147 on a harp exam? Also a person, also from AB forum, got 145 in grade 8 clarinet, 2 marks from aural and 3 from sight-reading - full marks on pieces! eek.gif Personally, my highest was Grade 2 clarinet 120 smile.gif hides.gif

PS: A few people voted for full marks, and some for extra marks! I wonder, how could this be?

My highest mark was for Grade 1 clarinet. I got 118

140 grade 8 recorder a couple of years ago. Still makes me so happy!

I know a 16-year-old who has just got 147 for their Grade 8 Piano, they're pretty happy!
And I also know two people to have got 146 (on Flute 30 years ago and on 'Cello in 2010).
Other high-fliers are a 142 on Gd 8 Piano, and a 140 for Grade 7 harp - both from the last set of exams.

Proves that it's not totally impossible to get really good marks, though I'd say to get right up there you need to be past the Grade 8 standard, and be a very good overall musician too (for the SR/Aural).

I've heard that in Grade 8, examiners literally can't give 30/30s in all three pieces (which is, I believe, unfair - surely it is entirely possible; wouldn't Lang Lang?!), so I don't know whether 150 at Grade 8 is possible.

I've managed 139 several times but never managed to get that one extra mark for the prestiege of 140 sad.gif My little sister however, just got 145 for her grade 2 cello! party1.gif

My highest was 130 for Grade 1 Clarinet, but one of my friends got 144 for her Grade 8 Alto Saxophone exam! I can only dream of a mark so high!

I just broke my own record last month with 139 for Grade 4 Viola biggrin.gif

I'm not saying this to boast but to note to myself really that I'm actually well past Grade 4 and more 5-6 standard. But this is how I like to take exams otherwise I feel under-prepared and in danger of ruining things with nerves - I felt very confident in this exam.

But I'm honestly not 'trophy-hunting' my exams - I was due to take this exam last year but a family crisis intervened. I then thought I would take Grade 5 this session but just didn't feel my scales were secure so opted for the lower exam partly to keep them in chronological order (having done grade 3) and partly because my confidence was low anyway and the pieces were lovely to play laugh.gif (I feel better now laugh.gif party1.gif rolleyes.gif )

138 for Grade 1 recorder
98/100 for Grade 7 theory

My twin and I both got 136 on grade 8 in our second instruments. Tenor sax and oboe respectively.

I found that this happened a couple of times, like in our lower exams. It wasnt always with the same examiner either. Coincidence ?

Proud to say I got 141 for my grade 3 violin (and I made a mistake in my aural). My son got 142 for his grade 1 trumpet. We were both playing comfortably at a grade higher standard than this when we entered for these exams, I think it makes it much less stressful and more enjoyable if you only do the exam after you've surpassed it's level.
