I have my first proper piano lesson in ages tomorrow morning with a 3rd year music student. I'm quite scared, because I've not played in ages and I can't play anything.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Does that mean you teaching them or them teaching you? (sorry im so stupid...) Whichever, GOOD LUCK! laugh.gif
saxlover
He is teaching me.
Trebor
It'll be them teaching Nat. Good luck, I'm sure it'll be okay.

Too much time in the student's union? Thought as much.

Just explain to the tutor that you've spent the whole of the first few months at uni drinking, er, I mean studying, so you're a little unprepared. I'm sure he'll (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) understand.

Good luck and don't panic! I'm sure he'll not expect you to have done much if anything. Don't be surprised if he changes the way you play certain things either. No two teachers have exactly the same ideas/method. Is he nice????

*bakes good luck cake* GOOD LUCK! I'm sure you'll do ok!! smile.gif

Good luck Nat, although you'll be fine.

Yeah he is nice, and a very good pianist. I saw him tonight at a concert I went to and he asked me if I was ready for the lesson, I apologised in advance for what I attempt to play tomorrow.
SuzyMac
You'll be fine - he probably helped plan freshers' week!

Best o' luck biggrin.gif

Good luck, Nat. biggrin.gif

It was amazing!

I played him Vals Poetico - the grade 6 piece - terribly I must add.

Then we worked on technique for about 30mins and doing these funny exercises, and started a new piece.

So now I'm working on basic scales concentrating on technique, doing these exercises and a movement of a Clementi sonatina.

I've learnt loads more in about 50 minutes than I've ever learnt since I started piano.

Can't wait untill next lesson. Piano is fun now biggrin.gif

Yay smile.gif.

I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself. We've been trying to convince you that piano's fun for years wink.gif.
andante_in_c
Glad it went well. Must have been the good vibes we were all sending. biggrin.gif

What were the 'funny exercises' like? I'm intrigued. tongue.gif

Sure you are rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

I can't explain them, they were nothing I'd done before.

He said I'm a natural player, but am too tense, and some of the exersises are working on my wrist position and knuckles..or something or other!!

Oh that's really good Nat! Doesn't it make a difference - hope you look forward to all your piano lessons now.

Did you get the email about another Kodaly workshop? In November? This one's in Cambridge. I haven't decided whether to go again although I really enjoyed the day in Birmingham. They don't come round very often so will probably go. I suppose it's rather a long way from Bangor - you could ask for a one-off workshop to be arranged at the university(?) That would be good.
saxlover
Yeah, I feel like I am hopefully going to get somewhere now, he is a really good and nice teacher but knows what he wants me to achieve and won't be satisfied until I get it. if that makes any sense blink.gif

No e-mail about Kodaly, and I wouldn'y be able to go anyway
Rosemary
OK it's a bit far to travel for a day! I've just forwarded it on to you anyway. I think they had your old email address on the list.
saxlover
Yeah my old one is on there! Thanks anyway.

See, we're right, you're musical tongue.gif

So glad to hear it went well, Nat, it makes a big difference having a teacher who really suits you, & well done you obviously must've impressed him. smile.gif
AnotherPianist
Well done, I'm glad you enjoyed it biggrin.gif.

Now you have to remember how you felt yesterday in two years' time when you're teaching a new first year the saxophone smile.gif.
