The stupid people won't give me a licence with anything right on it, I'm going to kill them!!

I posted one off, they lost it, so I rang them up after 2 and a half weeks and said where's my licence. "Oh sorry Miss X you aren't registered as living at your halls of residence, your room doesn't exist"

erm yes it does, I'm sat in it!!!

So they changed it, and sent me another one

My initial is now E according to them. AND I'm Miss E Ph...... instead of Miss I P...... How can you spell it wrong when I spell it out slowly?! Ad my room number's wrong.

So I rang them again. "Just modify it on your licence it's fine" so I told them that it's not fine, coz they have to debit it, and they can't if my name isn't right. "Oh yes I see, can you spell your name please?"

So now, with another licence, another licence number, and an unspecified room number, I'm Miss J P..... blink.gif

So they're not getting any money out of me, it's their problem now, I'm fed up of talking to them!!

Oh how annoying!
Helen
Oh dear

How about writing to them, specifying the correct spelling of your name, and your room number etc? If you don't have a liscence with the correct details on it, they'll chase you up and it'll be your fault!

And keep a copy of the letter as proof.

Awww bless!

I've got my licence, didn't check if it had correct details on it though hehe biggrin.gif
crazy cow
i don't see why you should keep chasing them - if they can't charge you then im sure they'll correct it when they realise, but for now it's their mistake so they should have to deal with it! It's annoying though, im sure you have much better things to do!
weejen
What even more annoying is when they try to tell you that you don't have a licence when you had one for the past 3 weeks and are demanding you buy 1 or you'll be fined! They ovibously dont up date their records very often!
elliewelly
Grr, they are so annoying. We used to get letters and phone calls every couple of months because they didn't believe we don't have a TV. I kept saying "fine, come over and check!" but they didn't - for about 4 years! When we moved house last year, I rang them up straight away to tell them there was no TV at our new address. So far they haven't bothered to come and check, but at least they've stopped writing at last!

Yeah, same for us. People can't seem to get their head around the fact that not everyone has a TV. smile.gif

It was years before my mum and dad got a TV; visitors used to think they'd been burgled rolleyes.gif.

They're making up for lost time now though, unfortunately....

I have 3 licences now! mad.gif I'm going to kill them! This time, all my names and bank details are correct, but they sent it to my home address! What's the point?! So I've written a letter *nods*
saxlover
My bank lost my card then sent me a new on with the wrong name on it grrrrrrrrr
elmo
That's even worse! Someone could steal your money!! Write them an angry letter like I did *nods*

People who haven't been to our house before (especially people with children!) come in, sit down and look around in a very confused way before invariably raising the TV issue! I haven't watched TV for 10 years. My husband's sister doesn't have one either. It's not THAT unusual - surely?
Kflute
we managed to get away with not having one in halls. The people that had been in our flat the year before us only bought one (after they were threatened with a hefty fine!) around May. they obviously didn't transfer it to another address so we got away scott free!!!

Beware posting on a public forum.......

......I used to work in TV records (A long time ago now mind, they've been going downhill ever since laugh.gif )
elmo
Well, you get back and work for them, and tell them how to spell my name!!!

I heard that the fine for not having a TV licence (in practise, not the maximum penalty) is less than the cost of the TV licence itself wacko.gif. I love the way that the TV licensing adverts say 'we know the address of every house in the country without a TV licence' to make people think they know who is breaking the law; but of course they cunningly omit to say that they don't know whether or not they have a TV.... A friend of ours who doesn't have a TV spent the entire year getting threatening letters from them saying he had to have a licence; he even told them to come around and check he didn't have a TV but they never bothered, just kept sending letters wink.gif.

Anyway, aside from all that, if I ever feel annoyed about having to pay for a TV licence I like to think that mine funds the BBC orchestras, the proms and radio three (well contributes to it; not pays for all of it wink.gif); and everyone else's funds Eastenders and the rest of the rubbish. Makes me feel better about it smile.gif.
Deborah
If TV Licencing was on a pay-per-view basis, we'd be quids in! Whilst we have a television and a licence (we have to have a licence - Husband works for the BBC and could be dismissed for not having one ohmy.gif), we haven't actually watched any television for several months (although I did watch a DVD a few weeks ago).

Like AP, I think of it as funding the Third Programme and the Home Service (sorry, Radios 3 and 4), as well as putting a roof over my head.

tongue.gif Well at least it would be closer to my real name than the ones they've been trying to give me!
elmo
oh and I know the titles wrong, but since writing them a letter, I made sure I knew how to spell it!

That's a great idea Deborah, pay per view would work better as we don't really watch very much TV at all; but since we have one and do occasionally watch it, we have to pay the full licence fee. Which is exactly the same amount as people who do nothing but sit in front of it all evening when they get home from work....

The other thing that annoys me is that we can't get freeview in our area (hardly remote, in Glasgow...) but still have to pay the same for a lesser service (fortunately though the (rented) house had a sky box and dish when we moved in so we can get some of the free channels through that).
sarah-flute
Pay per view would be brilliant........ ho hum! As it is, £121 was 1 1/2 what I earned the month the renewal notice arrived so I decided it wasn't worth it! I rarely miss it - don't know how anyone finds time to watch enough to be worth it ohmy.gif
elliewelly
That's why I refuse to get a TV - it just isn't worth the £121 (or however much it is now) when it would never get used!
willobie
We haven't had a TV for over 25 years (I grew up in a household full of addicts sad.gif ) but it took us many years to persuade 'the powers that be' to stop sending us threatening letters...
Bb Clarinet
hmm. they're quick enough to tell you when you havent got a license, but it takes them ages to update records and care about the people that bothered to get one in the first place.

Just like the Inland Revenue... swift to take your money (rightly or not) and SLOOOOOOW to give it back when they mess up! mad.gif
sarah-flute
I have not been sent any letters for a while... they informed me that they WOULD be sending someone round to check - but thus far they haven't arrived after 10 months! smile.gif
elliewelly
They haven't been to see us either, and we moved in 18 months ago.
