Full Version: How Long To Learn The Basics Of Violin?

Hi all

I shall be getting my violin Monday fingers crossed, can't wait, but I was just wondering how long it takes to grasp the basics of the violin, and how long it has taken people to get to Grade 1 Grade 2 level. I would eventually like to take exams in it.

I currently play, piano (Grade 8), flute, clarinet and guitar ( as those of you who have read my posts will know).

For the violin I will probably be trying to put in at least half hour to an hour a day for practice time, and more on days when I have a bit more time!

Any tips of advice anyone can give me, in addition to things people have told me on other posts, I would be very grateful of!

Thanks

Joy

Antony, what's a double stop? It came up in one of the Grade 6 papers I was flicking through in the music shop the other day! What does the symbol look like?

Just wondering...

Double stopping is, unless I'm wrong, playing two notes at once on adjacent strings - they're written as a chord.

Hi Emma

It`s a violin playing chords 3 or more notes , it plays only 2 strings at once but moving fast with the last not of the chord fanging on :-s (just a chord)

have a look at the brandengburg concherto by bach movement 1 if you can

*hanging*

there is no symbol

Hi. I've been playing violin for 1 year and I'm doing Grade 4 in July. I don't actually do that much practice so really you could get to Grade 4/5 within a year if you're already an accomplished musician in other instruments.
