Yes I am at Uni, in London. Yes for my dissertation I am analysing music from trailers, adverts etc. I am loving it!

I play piano(main instrumet), flute, clarinet, guitar and am getting a violin Monday. Im having a mad year, I have recently taken on music a level, am studying my final year at uni, (its all go at the minute) and I am also focusing on my guitar, clarinet and flute, hoping to take grades soon, and will be doing violin soon too. It's the year for cramming in this year!

Oh yes, and Im also doing grade 6 theory, preparing for it anyway, and am looking into do doing a dipabrsm in piano performing, or teaching not sure yet, thats why I'm preparing Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu at the moment for it if I'm able to play it for the exam! tongue.gif

So I have a busy summer ahead but it will be good, as music is all I live for ( and my boyfriend of course) !!

What do you play? Are you at uni too??

Wow ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

That's amazing that you can fit all that in.
MBC_Tiger
I think I do as much as you, but obviously 6th form isn't as hard as uni, lol!
Naomi xxxx
joyjoy
Well it's all part of the fun, fitting it all in, I love uni, love my music, love teaching, so I couldnt give it up, thats why i want to stay on a do a masters, and eventually do a degree in music, as the one im doing now it media! tongue.gif It's still all good fun though.

My bros get fed up of me playing flute, cos I'm practicing the high notes up to g right now, and they hate it, as sometimes they come our a bit duff!

Joy biggrin.gif

Thanks for your all your replies everyone!
MBC_Tiger
it's ok Joy.Same here for the high notes. How long have you been playing flute?
Naomi xxxx

Naomi

I've had a flute around my house for six years, or there abouts, but have only recenlty seriously taken it up properly, about 6 - 8 weeks ago, something like that, I'm hoping to do grade 3 in the summer. Must admit, I get more good soudning high notes than i used to so I must be doing something right!

How long you been playing? have you got any grades?

Joy biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
MBC_Tiger
I got my flute in December and taught myself the basics, then I started lessons, so 3 months to date from January.Doing my grade 3 in summer also.Do you know what pieces you are playing?
Naomi xxxx
joyjoy
(If i do it) I have been doing two pieces form the music through time book:

MAIKAPAR -ARIETTA

BOYCE - MENUETTO

not sure about the unaccompanied piece yet tho

What pieces you doing?

I'm teaching myself, so when they're available i would like to the get the pieces on cd so i can see if i'm doing them right! I think i am but it would be nice to check with someone! I could check with my tutor at a level i guess tho.

Joy

I can't remember now, lol.Scales are going well though!
Naomi xxxx
joyjoy
With the scales, how do you get on with doing them slurred? I struggle a little when I get past middle a, when doing d major for example, how do you find them?

Joy biggrin.gif
MBC_Tiger
D Major I have cracked and F Major, I'm finding G Major a little hard with the high F sharp.
Naomi xxxx
joyjoy
I guess it's just persiverance then!! I'll keep going!!Let me know what pieces your doing when you know! will be interesting to compare if we do the same ones

joy
MBC_Tiger
yes it will! Good luck with your scales. The G Major is the worst.actually the minors might be cause i think you have to go really high!
Naomi xxxx
joyjoy
a minor you have to do a twelfth, g is the highest minor with two octaves.

Good luck to you too! with the exam etc.

Joy biggrin.gif wink.gif
MBC_Tiger
Oh I can do G then, thats ok! Can you get the high G yet?
Naomi xxxx
joyjoy
Most days i can do the high g yes, I actually find that one andthe f and eflat easier than the high e for some reason.

Joy
MBC_Tiger
I like my high E and F lol.G is quite hard!
Naomi xxxx
saxlover
i can get high E and F but no way G!!

Nat
MBC_Tiger
lol.Mine is a bit squeaky still!
Naomi xxxx
joyjoy
it's all practice guys! Does anyone know how you get low b (below middle c on a flute)? its not on the finger chart, but ive been told you can get it??

Joy
saxlover
you need a flute with a low B foot joint i think
MBC_Tiger
You have to have a special foot joint with a B roller on, not just C.
Naomi xxxx
joyjoy
Oh I see
MBC_Tiger
I don't think they cost too much though.
Naomi xxxx
joyjoy
oh it's ok, i won't be buying one yet, i was just curious, thought it was a miss print at first, when i say the b in a flute book!

biggrin.gif
saxlover
no not a miss print!!
joyjoy
Must apologise for my spelling today! Ive been playing the flute today and am having a bad day, its hard to do the high notes today! Thou shall not give up tho!

Have you done any flute exams before grade 3? I haven't, it's my first one, argh!! Never mind. If you get a duff few notes on the day do you get marked down quite a bit! I think nerves will be make me play a few funny notes so im not looking forwardto that! unsure.gif

Why has this gone off the original topic?

My favourite concert pianist has to be Mitsuko Uchida. The way she plays Mozart, for example, is near sublime.

But my all time idol is Alfred Brendel and always will be.
steve
I've never seen or even heard him play, but I'm going to see Evgeny Kissin playing mostly chopin in about three weeks; looking forward to it!

Steve

ps anyone else seen/heard him? what do you think of him?
mrlim
Ogawa!!
MBC_Tiger
Thanks for answering for me, Nat.
I think you do lose marks for duff notes dry.gif we just have to hope and pray!
