I was going to vote in a poll about how I prefer to sing but the topic is closed. Could someone tell me what a split choir is?

Thanks

I assumed (could be wrong) that Tess meant a choir where you sing in parts?

Oh, I thought split as in all girls or all boys as opposed to mixed? blink.gif

I have no idea.

I have sung in / worked with / trained / accompanied choirs since I was 12, and I have never heard this term used in connection with a choir before.

Sorry can't help !

Thanks. I thought it might be a double choir, separate groups of SATB as some choral works have this arrangement.

yes - I guess it could well be, just that I've never heard it called that.

Our conductor might sometimes refer to one of the voice parts "splitting", although it's more likely to be eg "altos divide here". But I've not come across it used to describe the sort of choir you have.

As opposed to Fugue, which is when one person is cheating and watching the conductor blink.gif

I have participated in many choirs, but I have never heard of the term. As far as I'm concerned, at the high school level, there are usually SATB choirs and women's choruses. Before high school, most female choirs sing SSA or two-part.
