Has anyone noticed that you always get a answer that's a multiple of 9? And every number that's is a multiple of 9 has the same symbol? (you'll notice which symbol is on 9 changes everytime you click on the sphere, but is always the one in the sphere)
Can anyone get a different symbol to the one on 9?

Spot on

.
Let's look at the nine-times table:
9
18
27
36
45
etc. etc.
Now let's compare it, side by side, to the ten-times table:
10 9
20 18
30 27
40 36
50 45
We can see from this that to get the number in the nine-times table, we take the first digit of the number in the ten-times table away from it, i.e:
10 - 1 = 9
20 - 2 = 18
30 - 3 = 27
40 - 4 = 36
50 - 5 = 45
Now, look at their rules, Pick a number, we'll use 37.
They say to take away 3 + 7 = 10 from it; how about we take away the 7 then take away the 3, it's the same thing.
37 - 7 = 30
30 - 3 = 27
This is the important bit: each number has it's second digit taken away, leaving a multiple of 10 (31 - 1 = 30, 32 - 2 = 32, 33 - 3 = 33 etc. etc). Then, the tens figure is taken away which, as we saw earlier, always leaves a multiple of 9.
As snuglivixen noticed, if you look in their table of symbols the symbols at the numbers in the nine-times table are the same and the crystal ball displays that one.
