WOW How I'd love a look at that. Might be worth a trip to Sotheby's just to the pre auction viewing.

Just have to hope it sells to a museum somewhere rather than someone's private collection.

I don't mind if it goes private if they allow a facsimile edition of the ms to be published...

Sadly, so many 'private collections' are just that, private. It happens with instruments too. A real waste and very selfish to just lock them away in a personal vault. sad.gif

There's an American computer guru (not Bill Gates) who owns about 20 fine violins made by some of the famous 17th and 18th century Italian makers - including Stradivari. He's an amateur player, although quite good, but he locks the violins up in a temperature controlled room and just gets them out occasionally to play for his own pleasure. OK, so they are safe and under conservation of sorts, but 20 of them!!!?? He should really let a few out on loan to some of the young up and coming soloists who can't afford to buy that sort of violin.

it is sad though to think of those lovely violins sitting there and just occasionally being played by someone who (to be fair) probably can't begin to get the best out of them sad.gif you'd think it must do them good to be played now and again by someone who really knew what they were doing.....
