Grrrrr, this is really annoying me.

I was warming up on the flute and found myself playing what sounded rather like the Sailor's Hornpipe. So I thought it would be good practice for me to work it out properly (I do this quite often with songs, and hope that it is somehow adding to my overall musicality). Anyway I've got all the way through to the end of the first part (part "A" I suppose), but can't remember how the final phrase goes. And all the variations I've tried don't sound right.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you started on C, it would go:

C' B C' C C, G F E G C' C', D' C' D' D D, D C B D G G, A B C' B A G A G F E F E D C C B A G A C B D C E F G E, C, C!!

I've confused myself! Will someone play it and check if I'm right!!?

If you're talking about the Fantasia on British Sea Songs by Wood, that they play at the Last Night of the Proms, here it is in the original key:

A' G#' | A' A A E' D' | C#' E' A' G#' A' C#'' B' A' |
| B' B B B A | G# B E' E' F#'G#'|
| A' G#' F#' E' F#' E' D' C#'| D' C#' B A A G# F# E |
| F# A G# B A C#' B D | C#' A A E' D'|
| C#' E' A' E' C#' E' A' E' | F#' D' D' F#' E'|
| D#' F#' B' F#' D#'F#'B'F#'| G#' E' E' C#' |
| D' C#'D' E' F#' E' D'C#'| D' C#'B' A' A' G#' F#' E' |
| F#' A' G#' B' A' C#'B' D' | C#' A A

Hope that's legible enough!!

Ooh thank you, both of you! smile.gif

Now I can see where I've gone wrong. I didn't repeat the "A" in bar 6 (in ItsAll's version), and somehow that's what's thrown the rest of it out of bonk! Isn't it weird that as soon as you read the music it all becomes blindingly obvious, but up until then it seems impossible to work out - well for me it is!

I didn't know who composed it, nor its proper name, so thanks also for that.

It's a great tune for a flute. smile.gif

Thanks,
