Found Emma Coulthard's book which is great! We like it!!! But unfortunately, VN's older pal/mum thinks it's a bit too easy! sad.gif Oh well, any suggestions???

We are looking for either grade 4 or grade 5 level duet pieces. VN loves contrast. Thus a slow, fast and furious but most of all, FUN piece would be ideal! biggrin.gif

VN is not bothered whether a piece is particularly easy/hard.

Thanks a million. smile.gif

On second thoughts, I can ring her teacher.

I meant to reply to this...I discovered there were quite a lot of duets in the Minus One series, including some major repertoire items like the Bach Double etc. Can't afford to splash out just yet, but the acquisitive eye is upon them.

What I anticipate about these is that they will be fun to play with the backing tracks when the other half of the duo is either unavailable or in a bad mood tongue.gif .

Her teacher has given her only one so far BUT she LOVES duets! Pity. Other things she has been given are solo stuff - not so fun.

Pls tell me more abt this Minus One??? Is it a book? Or a CD thingy with scores?Never heard of it. huh.gif

Thanks a million!

Curses! Whole post just disappeared...

We have the Great Scott ragtime album for violin (not duet). Sheet music for solo violin part, plus CD with tuning sounds and separate solo violin and backing tracks for each piece.

There are 4 albums of short duets in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 1-3rd positions. Also the Brahms and the Bach "double" concertos. And a selection of Veracini sonatas for Violin (or other instrument) and harpsichord...

Music Minus One violin albums/sheet music

I ordered our one off Amazon, but I know a number of sheet music online shops carry them.

There was a whole MM1 thread a while back on the forums.

There's another thing called "Duets for One" which works in a similar way, but I haven't seen any of their products.

The Bach Double was something I started at grade 5. I did the 2nd movement that year, and 1st the next year. It's tricky at that level but I found it very enjoyable to be at grade 5 level and playing serious repertoire that everyone knew!

My violin teacher gave me a duet called 'Sleep Song' it's not the hardest peice in the world but it is very good for position changing and is about grade 4 - 5 standard. If your interested, i could scan it and send it to you having got your email from previous posts.

Hello people,

There are lots of duets and a pretty large range of other violin (+viola and cello) music at the virutal sheet music site:

http://www.virtualsheetmusic.com/

Worth a year purchase as you can download absolutely eveything. The music prints absolutely brilliantly with Adobe reader.

It is a great resource.

The definitive work for two unaccompanied violins is surely Bartok's 44 Duos, publ. Boosey & Hawkes. The level of technical difficulty varies from easy to pretty hard I guess. However, the level of musical difficulty is high as they use quite dissonant harmony.

All sounds great! Especially JonSadler's suggestion. smile.gif
