Hey, recently, I've been searching for this composer whom I know exists but apparently doesn't seem to because I can't find anything on her! Translated from Chinese, the name is Lin Guozhou. If anybody can find ANY information on her, please contact me! Particularly anyone who lives in China - perhaps you heard of her? or if you haven't, maybe you have some resources?
This is very, VERY important! Please, anybody, try?
Thanks (well, for reading this, at least).

I tried it this morning on google, and a load of interesting Chinese things came up but nothing on music!
Will try a different tack and report back...

| Lin Guozhou. |
You say this is a translation of her name. Is this the correct spelling or is there an alternative spelling? I tried a search on the BBC web site (their music section is very good) but I also came up with nothing on this particular composer.

I tried again later, and google kept suggesting an alternative spelling for the second name (Guizhou, I think it was), which is a province of China.
I still drew a blank on any musical connection.
Btw I believe Lin is as likely to be male as female in China.

Yes, it's just what I sounded it out to be. I don't know the correct spelling.
Haven't found anything yet either, but thanks to all who tried.

If you sounded it out, and you don't speak Chinese, you definitely got it wrong - it's virtually impossible for a non-speaking person to write from ear - unlike japanese, it's far from a phonetic language

I can't find anything, sorry...
Do you know anything else about her - such as what she's written, where she lives?

Can't think of any other suggestions to add to what already has been proposed. not every 'composer' will have a bibliography/information on the internet unless they've written something that has reached a wide audience. Just as there is nothing about me on the net!!!! Good luck though with your search.

During the Cultural Revolution, she lived in Canton or Guandong and I know she has written numerous compositions, but it's not widely known since most of it was lost after the Red Guards ransacked her home and burned it.
She died later in a prison(I don't know which one) after being convicted of being a "Rightist." That's all I know, if anybody's still interested.

Hello again, could the composer's name be Li Jinhui? There was a composer by that name who died in prison.
There are quite a few sites on Google that came up, including one that had this description:
Shanghai composer who established Huangse Yinyue ("Yellow Music"), the dominant form of popular music in the 1920's and ‘30's; founded the "Hongming Gewutuan (Bright Moon Song and Dance Troupe)" which produced such hits as "Sister I love you" and "Peach Blossom River."

hmm . . . wow, carys, thanks for that information, I'm keen on any Chinese composers.
But I'm pretty sure that's not it. She lived in Canton, south.
and no, although what i sounded it out to be may not be accurate, it shouldn't be that far from the truth, DavidMusic. I do speak Chinese and can sound out the English translations.
