Hi
I've been told to buy this so I can play the first movement.I've ordered a copy, but I don't know how long it would take to get here, and I'm supposed to have worked on it before my lesson on Tuesday. Could anyone send me the firt movement, just to work on before I get my own, and then I'll destroy it when my own arrives please?

Can you borrow a copy from the university library, or other clarinettists at Hull? (If I sent you my copy it'd probably be Tuesday before you received it anyway!).

You can download a sample page of the sonata

Thanks, that's really useful

I can at least have the first page prepared to a reasonable degree and work more when I get mine.

Just looked at that...how is it possible to get to the low D in bar 9? Or is it written at concert pitch?
*confused*

Oct 23 2005, 03:34 PM
It's written in bass clef and it is what the piano plays!
elmo
Oct 23 2005, 03:36 PM
lol!
I'm never gonna get mine before Tuesday now, I can't practice in my room (long story, but it will help a complaint against noisy person downstairs in the future) and I can't print the online one off coz it won't display on the computer downstairs.
oh dear

Oct 23 2005, 04:36 PM
I would print it off and then scan it to you but I need to re-install my scanner and I can't do that until Tuesday at the earliest

I guess being played on the piano makes a bit more sense!

saxlover

He can't complain if you can't get the music!

Oct 23 2005, 05:15 PM

He wasn't too bothered in the end. He said there were bits with weird fingerings and stuff which would be better learned from the start. Don't really like it though!

Oct 27 2005, 03:12 PM
Oh good on both counts!!

I particularly like the third movement - it's really good fun! I just wish that I could play it up to speed in the more awkward passages!

I played through that sample page and loved it, especially from bar 9/10 onwards

Oct 27 2005, 11:57 PM
No Matt I can see how it can sound nice there! I was trying to think about what the accompaniment sounds like, and if it sounds the same as what I think it does in my head, then I think I could like that bit!

Oct 27 2005, 11:58 PM
Izz what has happened to you! You can't like Poulenc..it is against my rules!
elmo
Oct 28 2005, 12:04 AM
lol no I can see that there are good patches. I'll never (I don't think) fully like it coz bits are too weird. Like all the jumping around, what's that about?!

Oct 28 2005, 12:06 AM
No idea
Ah well...I'll accept you liking just a bit

I've not read through all the previous comments, but have to say that I can't stand the Poulenc!!!!

It's just not melodic to me - I much prefer good old Mozart and Weber!
elmo
Oct 28 2005, 03:57 PM
ooooh Weber I like listening to that! That's what I thought about Poulenc, but I'm beginning to see it has *some* melodic bits

lol I was waiting for that. I have a question about the Poulenc: In bar 22 there's that fast run, but everytime I play it fast, my B won't sound, but when I play it slower it does. Is it just something which will happen if I keep practicing it, or am I supposed to use alternative fingerings?
saxlover
Oct 30 2005, 10:46 PM
B on the break? That is hard to get anyway, maybe you kind of need to change your embouchure slightly? I don't know

I don't like it much, it's a bit naff in my opinion! It sounds random, but then when you actually look at it, it's the same idea(s) over and over again starting on different notes, in a not-even-clever way.
