Does anyone know of a pop song or well known piece of music which has obvious contrasts between sound and no sound? Ideally it needs to be on CD so students can play along using percussion instruments.

Any other activity suggestions would be welcome!!

There's a fantastic percussion piece from the BBC's Professor Allegro series / program a few years ago. The song is very beautiful with lots of expression, timbre and contrasts and it's about an animal being hunted in the thick snow and it was sung from the fugitive's point of view. But alas! I forgot the name! Will try to recall and revert.
