Hey there, is it true that the marking system of a "distinction" of trinity college 's ATCL has change from 90/100 to 80/100. Because my friend told me that she got 87/100 and got merit but later she realised that they lowwer the requirement of a distinction from 90/100 to 87/100... so she was annoyed by the fact that she only got merit as she did her ATCL before the mark change. So does anyone know if there was a mark change??

Hi Pianist 1210

For Trinity diplomas there isn't a merit. You pass if you get over 50% and you get a distinction if you get over 75%.

This is a change to the marking system they used to have, where a pass was 70% and a distinction 90%.

However, the standard required to get 50% in the new mark scheme is the same as the standard required to get 70% on the old one. And the standard required for 90% on the old scheme is the same as the standard required for 75% on the new one.

Cheers

FYI, there wasn't a distinction category for Trinity diplomas when the pass mark used to be 70%. I scored 92% for my LTCL in 2000 and the certificate I'd received was the standard one issued to all successful candidates at that level. The 90% requirement for distinction applies only to Trinity's Performer's Certificate (post-Grade 8/pre-diploma) and First Concert Certificate exams.

So you mean that there was a thing called the performer's certificate?? But what's the different between performer's certificate and ATCL??
katyjay
There still is a Performer's Certificate in Trinity. It's between Grade 8 and ATCL.
