Yes, I 'm coming to a point when I have to choose between these two examination board to do a dip exam. So which one should I go for?? Are their marking scheme be any different, will either one be easiler?? My firends said that trinity is easiler and many of them did trinity, but is Royal School any good as well?? Please feel free to give me any suggestions. Thanks!!

You shouldn't pick Trinity just because there are rumours it is easier!

Sorry everyone, the title should be "Trinity OR Royal School". Typo, sorry!!

The best way to decide would be to have a good look at the syllabus for each of them and see which suits YOU the best.
Some people will prefer one and some the other.

Pianist 1210 they are the same level, that is, the level of achievement you would reach at the end of the first year of a music degree.

Trinity is not an easy option.

Pianist_1210, there is a thread on this very subject on the Diploma forum - have a look. smile.gif
As Katyjay says, each board requires a very similar standard. However, as each board has a different exam structure, you may find that one suits your strengths better than the other. (This may be why your friends think it's easier - simply means it's easier for them personally, rather than easier as a whole)

Another thing (which you'll also find discussed a lot on Diplomas!) is that works appear at different "levels" between the boards (eg at LRSM for AB and maybe ATCL for Trinity). Don't be fooled - there are works on the AB Diploma syllabus that appear in the AB Grade exams! You need to be playing them at a much higher standard to pass the Diploma, and the same piece would need to ramp up in standard between the levels on the same board's exams.

All the best, and for heaven's sake, don't rush into the exam. It's a big leap from Grade 8.

Yeah I know.... grade8's piece is only one movement of a sonata and dip is the whole sonata....seems really really difficult..... unsure.gif
