I was just wondering about public liability cover for for teaching privately. The most obvious way seems to be the Musicians Union, or is there another way? Also is it any different teaching in your own home or at the pupil's house?

Joining the ISM also confers ridiculous amounts of public liability insurance - more or less covers the ISM sub by not having to pay separate premiums.

I use the MU's own Public Liability Insurance and I've not had any problems wherever I've been teaching. There are lots of 3rd Party insurances out there, some of which are actually quite expensive. But bearing in mind the cover is probably no better than the MU's own policy, you might as well kill two birds with one stone by getting your insurance and also having the benefit of membership to cover you for any other industrial disputes, such as pay etc.
