After coming out of the exam thinking i did absolutely terribly and waiting in nervous anticipation for three weeks for the dreaded results to arrive.....i am so happy that i got a merit!! I think the examiner must have been very nice to me! I just managed a merit (120 marks). Still, considering how unconfident i was when i entered and left the exam room i am pleased with what i got. Good luck to everyone else who is preparing for their grade 8!!

Thank you all!
I played sarabande and rondeaux by bach, allegro moderato by schubert and chopin waltz in E minor. Which pieces are you playing, oriental bird?

i played the sarabande and rondeax, and waltz in e minor as well. i also played the beethoven sonata in g, not the one in the grade 8 book. when was your exam? mine was in the middle of march, and i got my results 10 days after, which is really fast! i got a merit too yay!

Congratulations jess! I took my exam at the end of March and got my results three weeks after. Which part of the exam did you find most difficult? I.e. aural? scales? For me it was the scales and arpeggios because mine weren't very well prepared and they were the first thing that i did in the exam so my hands were shaking from nerves and i didn't play them very well. But at least i messed up the scales and lost marks there rather than on my pieces, hehe.

my aurals were definitely the worst! i started with my scales too, and although i was really really nervous, i kind of jsut played everything, and i didnt really think about how nervous i was or anything, especially in my pieces! it was very weird, the first time ive ever felt like that in an exam! anyway, by the time i got to my aurals, i was really really nervous again, and found them really difficult!

any tips on the bach, schubert and chopin from the examiners for gd8 piano??

For my pieces, i had some critical comments on the pedalling, which should have 'ease and clarity'. In grade 8 they really expect you to more stylistically aware, e.g. using appropriate rubato, being sensitive with the shaping of the phrases and bringing out the mood of the music.
Good luck!
