Well, I apologise if I sounded offensive, but I just wanted sl123451 to know that Op.38 is the F major Ballade and Op.58 is the B Minor Sonata. You see, everyone makes mistakes, even record companies. And thank you for highlighting it out, Semele. wink.gif

You did sound offensive. It is Op.58 woopde doo. Anyone can make a mistake yes so don't go on about it.

.

In regards to sl123451 and pianoplayer's comments, piano player is right, Chopin's B minor Sonata IS Op.58, NOT 38. His Op.38 is the Ballade No.2 in F. And he did only write 3 solo piano sonatas and 1 Cello Sonata.

well i dont mean to be patronising...but i do have right in front of me his opus.38 piano sonata in b minor, 4 movements, played by Claudio Arrau, released by EMI Records. Im sure such a big label would not make such a big mistake.

and my sight isnt quite that bad biggrin.gif

Well then, maybe you would like to take a walk to the nearest cd shop and check out all the cds have has Chopin's B minor Sonata. wink.gif

I dont really want to argue...but i WAS staring at a record of "op38" b minor chopin sonata...obviously now its wrong...so what was i supposed to think given that i had the recording in front of me.

Who knows, maybe this recording might be worth something - cant be many of them around! biggrin.gif

Schubert - Death and the Maiden and Ave Maria with a tenor from school for a concert

But I'm also working on
Beethoven - Sonata No.5 in C minor Op.10
Debussy - Feux d'artifice (devilishly hard!)
Liszt - Consolations

Actually, just looking at the music to this etude, would the nickname derive from the leaps in intervals from 4ths to 8ves?

IrisH - LoonY
pianostar
You mean like when butterflies fly from flower to flower? Does that seem to remind you of intervals of perfect fourths to octaves?
Well, both intervals are perfect...so maybe..Chopin thought butterflies were perfect...so thats why he named it that. tongue.gif

Yes it is a marvellous work to play! Very rewarding I assume (I've never even dared go near it, 3s vs 4s scare me! Not prepared to do an entire piece of it ohmy.gif)

But don't forget the other 3 Impromptus! Especially in F# and G flat. They're very rewarding also!
