Does anyone know what standard Beethoven's 6 Ecossaises WoO 83 are?

I think they would be really fun pieces to play and I would like to know whether I can add them to my: short term goals, medium term goals or long term goals list. unsure.gif

Thanks
Lucia
I take it that nobody knows then. Has nobody played these pieces? unsure.gif

I assume then that they're advanced pieces, thought that might be the case. dry.gif

I'll add them to my ever growing list of long term goals then. mellow.gif

Okay, I had no idea myself about the standard but I just had a flash of inspiration as to how I could answer the question...

The ABRSM Publishing website has grading levels next to all the books of pieces so I searched for the pieces you asked about.

A book entitled: "Beethoven A Book of Dances, WoO 81-86" and described thus:

QUOTE
during the late-18th and early-19th centuries it was customary for well-known composers to provide sets of dances for Viennese balls. This album contains all such dances Beethoven wrote for piano solo, including the famous group of Six Ecossaises.

Is marked as grade 4 and 5 standard. The sample page given is one of the pieces you mentioned so it is the right thing!

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that I never thought of looking there. blink.gif

I'm suprised that they are only Grade4/5 they sound more difficult than that. I've only heard them played by Alfred Brendel on CD which of course is slightly different to a Grade 5 pianist playing them.

I'm Grade 5 slowly going towards Grade 6 so I think I will mention them to my teacher. laugh.gif

They would be a great "party piece" - you know "play something for Great Aunt Dora"!!! wacko.gif
