Go down a minor third.

C major - A minor
G major - E minor
D major - B minor etc etc

count down 3 semitones to get the relative minor.
e.g. if you were in C, down to B is 1 semitone, down to Bb is 2 semitones, down to A is 3 semitones. so A minor is the relative minor of C major

This works for any key. e.g. Bb major's relative minor is G minor (G is 3 semitones down from Bb)

Hope this helps!!

Hey! rolleyes.gif

The other way to do it is to go up a major sixth from the tonic of the major scale. The note you end up on is the tonic of the relative minor.
e.g. C major --> up a major sixth = A, so A minor is the relative smile.gif

Hope this helps!!

draw yourself 1 or two octaves of the piano. Find the note of the key you are in i.e. C Major, to find the minor you need to go DOWN (think u need to find the minor - which is sad if u get me) 3 semitones for instance 1. C-B. 2.B- Bb 3.Bb - A

Therefore you are in A Minor

TO get to a major key from a minor, simply reverse the process and go UP (think happy) 3 semitones for instance A Minor 1.A-Bb 2. Bb-B 3.B-C

Therefore you are in C Major

Hope it helps smile.gif
