Hi, does anyone know what sort of Aural tests and Aural work in are done at as level, and what sort of questions do they ask you in those tests, im not sure which exam board is relevant at this stage but is there anything from AQA. Edexcel or OCR that kind of stuff... im just looking as i would like to know what im likely to get asked next year and what i need to practice.

many thanks! biggrin.gif

Erm, can't tell you much as my teacher isn't great. For Edexcel at A.S you have top recognise chords and cadences. You have to write down the pitch and rhythm of a melody which is played to you.

AS AQA - it is extracts on your set works, which I did really well on, but not because I heard the things, because I memorised it all hehe

A2 AQA - based on 20th/21st century music, questions about style, chords, cadences, filling in melody, instruments, general things really. Also you have to so a musical setting of a text.

When I did A Level (last century wink.gif) there was also a section with actul listening tests more like the exam aurals... hearing & correcting mistakes of pitch and rhythm in various pieces of music (including ones with 2 or 3 parts and (yikes) an atonal one ohmy.gif) a certain amount (not a lot) of dictation, and I *think* some sort of skeleton score, a more complex version of the GCSE one. Was a long time ago though so don't know how much it has changed.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though, just guess. I did!! biggrin.gif

For Edexcel you have to do set works too.
