Two days off work with a migraine.

Now back in office.

To sixty-nine emails! Looks like they have changed their minds about everything since Tuesday. Though half of the emails seem to just be forwarding me 'comments', not telling me whether or not to implement what the comments say or ignore them! Still, in a few hours they'll be in (they are all in the US) and we'll see if we can untangle it all.

No wonder I get the damn headaches!!

Think I definately need to have a scream!!!

I've had two bad weeks in a row. My tutor at uni keeps contradicting herself as to what I can do for my final major project (which is worth 50% of this year!!). I want to do a recital around a certain genre and she keeps saying I can't even though in the course module it clearly states that I can!!! grrrrr

Aaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhh

Just got back from one of my delightful lunchtime recorder group visits. Year 1s of a rather effervescent nature.

While I was there I had the worst tickly cough I can ever remember, just couldn't get it to stop. Ended up with the children staring at me as my eyes streamed and I kept on coughing.

Eventually managed to get my water bottle out and have a sip of water, but started coughing again while the bottle was up, and so ended up with a large amount of water down my front.....

Cleaned that mess up, managed to finish the lesson, stopped off at the supermarket on the way back for some cough sweets and a few other bits of groceries.

As I got to the front door, I heard the phone ring. Hurried to answer it, tripped and watched as everything in my hands went flying.

First to land was my CD player - not checked yet how much it is damaged, but I wouldn't rate its chances given that the next thing to land was a half-litre pot of natural yoghurt. Which created an impressive puddle on the carpet that then transferred to me as I landed in it.

I have now changed out of my yoghurt and water stained ensemble, had some high-carbohydrate comfort food and am wondering who the telephone caller was. But as they left neither a number nor a message I guess I'll never know.

dare I say that you told it all in an 'entertaining' way... no fun at the time, but thanks for inducing a smile (of the caring sympathetic kind) unsure.gif

Just been to Tesco. When unloading basket onto checkout belt, my last item - the plastic top jumped off blueberries and they spilled everywhere on the belt and and rolled all over the floor. Some got trodden on by those behind me.
They all laughed. OK so did I. But they were then made to go and queue at another checkout whilst the area was cleaned up ! I laughed even more ! rofl.gif I got away with it 'cos an assistant fetched me another punnet - I paid up and ran for it.

Faint echoes here of that old sketch 'the Bricklayer', no ?

Anyone else old enough to remember it ?

Can't agree with you there, maggiemay. The Hoffnung version is the one I remember.

oddly enough,I didn't associate it with Hoffnung at all, although the gist is the same.

The bit about the hurricane was definitely different !

Not feeling well. Waited an hour to see a doctor last night, but they sent me elsewhere. Very cold, as have no heating. Being very cold making me feel worse. Had to get up early, despite not feeling well and being cold, as people are supposed to be coming to fix heating. Having reluctantly got up v early, have now been sitting waiting for them to turn up, feeling ill and cold, for three quarters of an hour. mad.gif

jacobpianofluteorgan
I've just felt rather down this week. I've just been thinking about careers etc.
I've just been feeling music isn't for me, and always just feel second best to someone else i know, and think it would just be easier to take another route. I love medieval history and french, so would like to do something with those subjects. I don't know! sad.gif

Jacob. sad.gif
Miss Ross
Jacob, I can really empathise with you. I've felt that way to a great extent over the last few months, to the point where I more or less stopped playing/composing completely and found it hard to even listen to music. At the moment I'm looking into courses in I'm even more interested in, Gaelic and Divinity to name the 2 front-runners.
However, it might help you to perhaps not compare yourself to the other person, and to try to recognise that you are a talented musician in your own right. thereThere.gif
mwl1
And I in turn have been feeling the same. My main problem is probably that I may have pinned slightly too much on music over the last few years. I feel I ought to do other things anyway, for fear of being completely one-dimensional.
BerkshireMum
Sorry to hear that the three of you are feeling less enthusiastic about your music than in earlier times. I think that unless you have an enormous amount of drive and determination to succeed in the music field, it's best kept as a hobby. That way you can just enjoy it without worrying about whether someone else is better than you (someone always is!).

Matthew, I'm sure that imminent grade 8 piano exam can't be helping - it's enough to put anyone off music, although it's a hurdle you need to get over. Miss Ross, have you abandoned your university course then?

Don't forget that whatever subject you choose, others will be better than you! It just seems to matter less, somehow, when it isn't music. I hope you all start to enjoy music-making again very soon; it's such a wonderful hobby when you don't feel pressure to always be the best. smile.gif

Are you ok maddielou??
fsharpminor
It's clear a few posters are losing enthusiasm for music, and now feel it may not be for you as a career. This has been happening for years. At age 17 in 1964, having alread got an ALCM on piano and a good Grade 8 on organ, I felt exactly the same. IT bugged me for ages, and I could have screamed! I went off to Uni to read Chemistry ! That industry has provided me with a successful career. But I have always remained very active in music, and I cannot explain how much pleasure I have had from it, and without having to perform under pressure or do more exams or practise hours a day. Professional music is maybe not for everyone.
My daughter took the same view, she has Grade 8's on violin and piano, but has a career based on her M.Sc in statistics. I am still in touch with a guy (PhD in Physics, working in electronics) with whom I formed a violin/piano duo at Uni.
We have two or three doctors and a dentist on here with high musical standards, and Im sure many other professions too.
I guess the real problem is actually coming to the decision to 'do something else', when for several years you have expected to go into the music profession. Im nor sure what causes this sort of feeling, in my case I think it was a lack of self-confidence that I was not good enough to be a performer, and would end up teaching (for which I really wouldnt have had the patience!).
So I hope all you doubters the best of luck in coming to the right decision (whichever way).

AAAARGHHH! I still have freshers' flu, even now, four weeks in, and I can't even speak! I have my first lesson with a new singing teacher tomorrow and I can't cancel the very first! GRRR!
