Not really a scream this time, but I thought I'd better fill you in given how many people wished Klio better.

Sadly, she is no more. sad.gif It wasn't a particularly pretty end for her, but I'm glad she went of her own accord rather than having to be put down, as I'd have spent ages thinking 'what if...'. The vet did work out what was wrong with her in the end: her abdomen was full of liquid or a tumour or something not too good.

So sorry to hear about your cat, Sarah. sad.gif It sounds as if she was very poorly, and at least she's no longer suffering. Cats become very much one of the family, and I'm sure you'll never forget her.

I've just recorded by singing voice, and ugh. I sound awful. I was better at singing when I was only eight.

Plus I'm down with the cold and got coursework to finish. But I'm hoping next week will be better.

Aaaargh!

Sometimes I just don't get my dad!!

We have an old cat (I think she's about 14) who has basically stopped eating for the last week and has obviously lost weight and isn't herself. A similar thing happened to her a few years ago where she literally refused to eat for about a month and we only just managed to save her by force-feeding her. That time, someone took her to the vet, and they didn't come up with anything very helpful apart from a couple of tins of special cat food.

My dad won't accept the possibilty that it could be anything other than the same as last time this time, so won't take her to the vet as 'it's still in the early days so we can't tell yet and it will cause more harm than good anyway because she's very nervous of strangers!'

When I pointed out that it would be better to take her to the vets now rather than to have to pay the emergency call-out fee over christmas, he said that in his experience of 20 years of cat-ownership, they don't go downhill quickly and die slowly over the course of a year or so, so there's no urgent hurry blink.gif I was particularly surprised he took this approach because given that someone we knew was completely fine in the summer, went to the doctors because they thought they were feeling a bit dodgy and had died within about two weeks. I mentioned this to him, but all it did was get an explanation of how cats are different to people.

I can tell that my mum thinks she should go to the vets too, but she's mainly my dad's cat, so noone wants to go against him.

Just aaaaaargh!!! argh.gif

AAAaaargh still and even more! sad.gif

Someone did finally take the cat to the vet, and they couldn't find anything wrong with her (so my dad was right in that respect). She hasn't really eaten anything since christmas day and is now literally just skin and bones, can't really support her and we're having to force feed her a mixture of baby food and gloopy cat food stuff. She should get better in the end, as it worked the time this happened before, although I don't remember her being quite this weak. sad.gif

The stupid thing is that we realised she was going downhill relatively quickly, but my dad insisted on putting out plates and plates of different food to try and tempt her with for ages (she wouldn't take any of it!) because he didn't want to put her through force-feeding again, but all the time, she was just getting worse and worse, and if we'd started straight away, she wouldn't be in this state! mad.gif

Why do I have to have a relapsed anorexic cat and a dad who goes so out-of-his way to cause no harm to her that he ends up making her worse?!?! sad.gif

Sorry to hear about your cat sad.gif . One of my friends has just lost 2 of her cats in quick succession. My 6 are all very similar in age. Guess I'll be going through it some time..

Could kick myself - just had a really bad lesson segment on playing by ear with an adult. She kept at it but I could see she was gettign really fed up. I couldn't get her to stop and just listen to me, and we ended up getting a bit cross with each other (although all smiles on the surface!) ARGH.

Harrumph for having a migraine.
When I get them, I'm often bothered by two of light, sound or movement. So I might be able to sit somewhere quiet and read a book. Or if light and sound are bad, I end up cleaning the entire house because there's nothing else to do.
Today it seems all three are a problem. Which is annoying, because there is so much I could be doing. I've got a book to read for my OU course, but I can't focus/concentrate on reading. I could clear and turn one of the veg patches, but I can't do that sort of movement. I've got more music than you could shake a stick at to play, but I couldn't bear the noise. And so on...

I know, I shouldn't be at the computer screen, but there's nothing else I can do, and I'll only be here for five minutes...

Aww you have my sympathies sad.gif

I've had migraine since I was eleven and it's taken various forms. Now it's at the stage where I get the 'aura' and become incredibly sensitive to light, movement, and sound but I don't get the pain very often! It's a strange sensation; unpleasant but not painful wacko.gif I think the pain has stopped because I'm on brain-medication and a prophylactic specifically for migraine and the combination seems to work.

Chilling out in a room with subdued lighting works. I sometimes watch TV with the sound off.. more relaxing than staring at text on a screen...... *tuts at you like a mother*... laugh.gif rolleyes.gif

There is a pitch war going on in my workplace over a loo.

One dept is trying to claim it as their own because they use it as a changing room. Our dept has used it since the building went up in the 1960s.

One person from our dept reported to the cleaners that it needed attention - now a sign has gone up saying ###### Staff Only. Any problems contact #####.

Talk about threatening!

This place has very inadequate facilities but there is no point complaining because there is literally no room to incorporate better ones.

I wish I worked from home!

Interesting...when I first got migraines, it was visual-aura-only, about twice a week. My GP at the time said nothing to worry about - the swirly lights would come, 20 minutes or so later they'd be gone, and that would be that.
A few years later it was probably four times a week, and I started to get the headaches with it. When I had one that had me off work for four days, I went to my GP - who was a different one by this time. And he was utterly horrified that the other GP had said nothing to worry about, and played about with my meds. I then went to two or three per year, but knocking me out for the best part of a week.
Then, they started to get more frequent but less long-lasting. When it got to one or two a month - but only lasting a couple of days - my GP played with meds again, because I was getting worried about the amount of time I was having off work! Now I'm at 3 or 4 a year, lasting 3 or 4 days. But now I sometimes get them without aura, which I find really weird.

Oh well, feeling much better if not-quite-right today. Will probably be back at work tomorrow due to boredom biggrin.gif

Two sisters commissioned a painting from me as a present for their brother. I spent a lot of time discussing it with them, sending them copies of pictures, answering email after email.. etc.

Now one sister has gone with another artist 'because they're cheaper' and apparently that's it settled.

I know that 'pitching' is part of my job but I've never had anyone change their mind like this before at the last minute and I'm really cross at the waste of my very precious time! mad.gif (I hope they 'get what they pay for' because I'm not the most expensive artist by a long shot!)

Programs running fine until about 3pm yesterday.

Programs went bonkers.

Programs fixed this morning whilst being nagged by the QC group that they are ready to start QC.

QC group start once I have done a complete run and all programs are working fine.

QC group can't get their data out.

I go and look and do a complete run on *their* data rather than *my* data.

Programs go bonkers.

Error message of no help whatsoever; same problem as this morning which I've just fixed but is complete back again...now have no idea what is going on!

ARGH! again!

Why won't people enter *valid* data? Program yesterday went bonkers because it couldn't cope with certain values that had been entered. In the 'real-life' data they are restrictions, and this field can only be entered as unique a six-digit numeric.
But in the test data, we had some non-numerics, and some numeric-duplicates (not seen as duplicates by the system where it was entered, because they were entered as 1, 01, 001, etc, but the system extracting does see those as duplicate. Which wouldn't be an issue if they had been entered as six digits, i.e. 000001)

Aaargh!!!

My mum has just announced to me that we might be going skiing at half term! (Which, in itself, is great biggrin.gif).

I have a big coursework deadline the day after half term and had been counting on doing the majority of the work over the holidays, given there has been absolutely nothing to suggest we might be going away. I also have loads of other work to do before half term (in particular for the composition interim deadline on friday), so am going to have to work absolutely full-time to ensure the coursework is done before next weekend... and that estimate is ignoring any work that any teachers happen to give out this week.

It would be ok if it were certain we were going skiing, but it looks like it's going to be a very last minute decision, so I can't wait till then before getting stuck in. I can see I'm going to end up working myself into the ground just to find that we're not actually going anywhere.

Im going skiing the first week of our easter break, in Austria.
I hope you have a good time though, if you do go.
BerkshireMum
Poor Sarah! thereThere.gif I suppose the upside is that if you get all the work done next week, even if you don't go skiing at least you'll be able to have a good break.

Talking of breaks, did I see that you've cracked yet another piece of recorder? Where do you normally store your recorders? I'm sure you will know about trying to keep them at a fairly constant temperature, but what happens if you have to take them into college? It seems wrong that three different pieces have cracked.

A certain family member (in-law) has announced that they wish to come and stay over the weekend of my birthday. My other half, lacking gumption, did not think to say that we had other plans. That's the other problem with going away: I won't be around to answer the phone if mollenhauer rang and would be completely unreachable, so it would make sorting the whole thing out a bit difficult.

They're stored on a shelf in my room (relatively warm, but constant temperature, and I don't think it's particularly dry). So the only time they move out of my room is to go to lessons, so for a couple of hours a week in a snuggly case, so you'd have thought they would be up to that. Interestingly though, my descant shows absolutely no signs of cracking (well, i guess it wouldn't, but I 'just know' it's ok, whereas with the treble, i was always on edge), although it is the same wood (but different make), so that would suggest it isn't from the temperature/humidity.
BerkshireMum
I'm so sorry, Sue. These things are difficult. You will either have to bite the bullet and accept the invasion (maybe celebrate your birthday the following weekend?) or offer the in-law another date.

I ended up spending my birthday with in-laws this year and it was much better than I expected - they really spoiled me. It's different when they come to you though. Could you suggest that you all go out for a meal to celebrate your birthday?

You have my sympathies SueHM. Bit of a cheek to "announce that they are coming to stay"! It tends to mean a huge amount of work (or it does in our house where tidying up is a major part of making room for visitors) - I hope your OH will do the largest share of the work since it's his relative that's coming! This isn't really an aaaarggghh - just a moan!

I joined a choir just before Christmas and was really looking forward to doing some singing again, but it's all gone sour on me. We seem to have had stand-in conductors almost every time I've been. Two weeks ago the real conductor actually arrived for the first time, only to explain that he's been recruited for Salzburg and won't be with us any more (lovely for him, not so good for us!). Last week's rehearsal was cancelled for snow. The chap who's agreed to conduct our next concert at the end of March lives near Banbury so didn't come tonight because the forecast was bad. We'll be having yet another conductor for the June concert.

Just feeling rather fed up as I was looking forward to making music, and all we seem to do is note bashing as "we don't know how the conductor will want it". I'm sick of everyone singing at the top of their voice; I can't hear what I'm supposed to be singing, and it just doesn't feel like music. I don't particularly like singing opera choruses anyway; just thought it might get me back into enjoying singing, whereas it's made me feel I was a fool to bother. sad.gif
