ARGH!!!
Why does my sister always have to jump in every time I'm requesting something from my mum?

This time I was asking for a lift to my friend's house for my friend's birthday, I was offering to do all the washing for a week, being as sweet and nice as possible, and trying to prevent a stress attack, and then suddenly my sister jumped in going "Oh, I want to go to Sophie's that day too! And Ellie's coming for a sleepover on Saturday, and I need a lift into town in a few days. Can you take me shopping? Can I get my hair cut? Can I have some new clothes? I need new shoes, I need to have a birthday party this year, I want to go out for lunch next week, and by the way I told Rebecca she was welcome to come round whenever she wanted, is that ok? And..."

Until my mum, finally goes "Neither of you are getting ANYTHING, you're both so SELFISH, don't expect ANY lifts from me!"

It's completely lost on everyone that I just made one perfectly reasonable request in the barrage of demands from my sister.

My day sounds like yours! Brothers and sisters are annoying! mad.gif

I'm usually blamed or feel the consequences for something that has nothing to do with me, all because my brothers and sister can't act like civilised humans!

Today we were all accused of being lazy and not helping out around the house, when it's me who will do the hoovering, tidying the kitchen, loading/unloading the dishwasher, washing/drying clothes, cooking, and general housework type stuff when me and my siblings are asked to do something, and it always ends up that they sit back and go on the computer or watch the television while I give up my time to do it all, yet I still get the blame when things aren't tidy, and get accused of being lazy and not doing my fair share!

I've just chipped a clarinet reed as well. sad.gif It was my one remaining vaguely decent reed (just have soft ones and some yucky vandorens left now). Am going to have to bite the bullet and get some new ones now - will need a decent reed for the Leeds event. Can't get my clari in tune with soft reeds, which would be a bit disasterous playing in an ensemble!

My sister used to do the exact same thing. Especially when my mum went out - she left a lift of jobs with me in charge. My sister would refuse to do any of them. I always told her she could face our mum's wrath, but somehow, even if I'd done 3/4 of the list, the situation was always interpreted as me pawning off my jobs on Cathy, and I got told off for attempted bullying.
She's much better now though, so I guess I'll count my blessings. She's just a bit thoughtless and occasionally manipulative.

Maybe you should start making a list of the stuff you've done, as you do it, and then your mum will stop calling you lazy.

Supposedly two days. They're replacing all the windows, but I'm a bit concerned that they may discover that the wall is rotten (which could then take longer...).

I now can't find an alternative computer to use which has the 2003 version of Word. sad.gif I'm not changing versions halfway through a 100,000 word thesis, and the new 2007 version won't let me format stuff how I want to and isn't compatable with some of my other software. sad.gif sad.gif My laptop has the right version of Word, but I can't connect it to the departmental network. sad.gif argh.gif

checked my email tonnes of times. my supervisor (for dissertation) hasn't bothered replying my emails. i sent in my whole dissertation last week as he asked for it, so that he could read. kind of doubt whether he has read any of it.

now realising that full footnote is required in dissertation and count towards the final word count. busy editing.

my back is in pain literally (i'm fine sitting on the organ bench and play for hours, but not so when i'm sitting in front of a computer, working).

I'm so sorry for both of you. I suppose the perpetrators felt life had given them a raw deal, but there's really no excuse for this kind of vandalism.

I think it's a growing menace - 3 weeks ago someone (presumably a pupil with a grudge) did this to one of the teachers' cars whilst it was parked in school.

I think finishing a PhD is an extremely stressful time.
I didn't realise quite how stressed I was until I was going to pick it up from the printers and my then four-year-old daughter burst into tears and said "Don't bring it back home Mummy, you're so much nicer without it." ph34r.gif

false_harmonic
I can't imagine how stressful a PhD must be! I remember at the end of my degree what I was like, and that's nowhere near the level of a PhD! After handing in our final group project (not actually my dissertation: that wasn't too stressful at all!) I was so stressed that I became so confused I really didn't know where I was. The group went for drinks and I couldn't understand what the bartender was asking me: it was like he was speaking a foreign language: he asked me for ID and I repeated my drinks order! Then I couldn't remember if I had paid him, and when I thought about it wasn't even sure that I had ordered drinks, and when he said I hadn't paid him and I got out my purse, I had no idea what money I should give him. After I'd finally worked that one out, and he gave me my change I couldn't think why he was handing me money. And all sorts of other things like that all night. It was a really horrible feeling.

I also remember in the middle of my second year breaking down to my mum and crying that I couldn't cope with uni and wanted to quit. I had just had a week off uni with chickenpox, and had rushed back so as to miss as little as possible, but I still really wasn't well and came back to five major essays to finish and hand in all at once. So I don't think there's any shame in being stressed over a doctorate!
