I was already not looking forward to today and now I'm going to end up going to work with bloodshot eyes dreading coming home. But, but, but, you'll be travelling for ever. And with no bacteria around you're not likely to decompose. So you'll just go on and on and on and always be out there.

(It's unlikely you'd ever hit anything, planets, etc, are really quite far apart. It'd be quite cool to go in to orbit around one, but that would be even more unlikely because you'd need to get exactly the right velocity...)

I was hungry so put a pizza in the oven... went to get it out and burnt my hand on the door sad.gif

I then put the pizza on the side and it started to fall into the washing-up bowl, which had a load of suds in it... managed to catch it (and burn my fingers) before it went for a swim sad.gif

Tell me about it! Today I tried to bake cakes... mixed everything together, before realising it didn't look right... I'd forgotten butter - and we didn't have any, we didn't even have margarine. I substituted some oil and milk, and extra baking powder, but they do not look right. plus, they're so stuck to the paper cases that you really have to eat them with a spoon.

They taste nice though.

I would have just had to walk seven miles home, if I hadn't depended on the kindness of strangers, when someone I'd never seen in my life offered me a lift home, upon spotting me trudging along at the side of the road in the dark.

This is because my dad forgot that I'd asked him to pick me up, and got angry about it, despite already having agreed. I told him I'd rather walk than have someone be rude to me for no reason... and the rest you know.

I think I need to get away from this place ASAP for my own sanity.

While that's quite an altruistic thing for them to do, that's also quite dangerous ohmy.gif Glad you got home OK though...

This is quite common in places like the lake district from what I see - I gave plenty of strangers lifts up there and felt quite safe about it. No way would I do it back home though!

I'm not sure it's safe here, but it probably is. The percentage of people who are kidnapped or attacked by total strangers is really much smaller than the papers imply. People know each other too, the woman who drove me home turned out to be the mum of a friend of my sister. I'd never met her, and she had no idea who I was when she offered a lift, but...

Apparently my mum set off the second my dad told her what had happened, to look for me. I didn't know, of course, and now she's angry at me too, for not being there to be found... sad.gif

As if you're supposed to just hang around waiting late at night on your own rolleyes.gif

Didn't they call you or anything? Grrr!

I suppose a lift from a female is probably likely to be safer, but if it was some random bloke you'd not seen before, I'd hope you'd think twice. Yeah it's not common for bad things to happen, but you have to play the percentages to stay safe yourself smile.gif
lucky045
I'd told my mum earlier in the evening that I didn't have my phone, though I later found it in my jacket pocket, so I can sort of understand her reasoning. My dad was aware that I had it though.

I wouldn't have got in the car if it was a guy... I would probably have said I was getting picked up soon or something.
BerkshireMum
Solari's right, lucky - it isn't worth the risk. Your Dad might have been fed up about having to turn out, but I'm sure he would much rather have done that than have you mown down in the dark by a careless motorist or abducted by some weirdo.

Not at all surprised that your Mum set off pronto to get you; I think that would be the response of most Mums. However much you and she row and argue, she loves you to distraction - that is the common lot of Mums! Part of her anger will be down to fear at not knowing where you were.

I hope you can shake down together as a family again soon. It sounds as if adjustments are needed on both sides, but getting away from home may not be the answer at the moment. smile.gif
lucky045
I'm sure you're right B-M, but in the meantime I'm upset/annoyed. sad.gif It's all very well being lectured for doing something wrong, but I don't like being told off due to my dad's forgetfulness. I may have overreacted somewhat though.

I've had more arguments over lifts and being picked up by my parents than any other thing since I went to Uni. And usually its because of being anxious, tired, and both parties having to wait around for the other without really knowing what's going on. Oh, and once you start having the row, you all feel guilty as well, which doesn't help.

I hope it blows over soon.

Babybird2
I once ended up somewhere in deepest Surrey at about 10pm, having missed the last train home.

Obviously I could have called home, but didn't because my parents haven't got a car so it would have been pointless. Ended up walking to a bus stop a few miles away with some bloke. I'm possibly more irresponsible than lucky045 tongue.gif

True, but because of the amount of media coverage, it does create a sense of fear.

I'd not be lulled into a false sense of security though; a friend of mine was assaulted a few months back by some weirdo that decided to walk over a railway bridge with her and while wary, she thought the guy looked pretty harmless at the time. Urgh, found out who my english and maths teachers are today for year 10.

I have the worst selection of teachers there are. (We've been divided into sets, but they're random sets, so they're basically just mixed the whole year into 5 groups for maths and 5 for english.

My english teacher is the same one I had in year 7 and 8. She's this quite old woman who is cranky with everyone except me. Instead, she seems to be obsessed with me, makes me do all her jobs for her, gave me the achievement prize for english two years in a row, and grins and says "Hi Bobby!!!!!!" around school, no matter how many times I tell her my name is Robyn. This is ok, but she can't teach! I didn't learn anything through the two years, and pretty much stayed at the same level.

Maths is a ghosty woman who stands at the front of the class whispering, and can't control the class. We were set in year 7, 8 and 9, so I was with people who didn't muck around too much. Now I'm with a load of chavs though, so I've got no hope of learning anything.

My english teacher this year has been AMAZING. She makes it fun! (I like english anyway, but it's just a lot more enjoyable) maths has been a bit patronising this year, but ok. Maths in year 7 and 8 were brilliant teachers.

I'm really annoyed. All my friends at least one good teacher, the whole year is separate from their friends ggrrrrr mad.gif

Can you not go to your head of year and point out that you feel you may be held back by your current class? Is it not grouped by ability? When I was at school I was put in a "Grammar set" where the others in my class actually wanted to learn stuff, rather than being lumped in with lobotomised neanderthals.

Well, the school say "Oh, it's a grammar school, you're all the same really"
There is a top maths set.
But I'm not nearly that whizzy (some people in my school could be in mensa, seriously)
And the rest of the sets are mixed ability wacko.gif

I had that right through school, bobziekins. Tbh, it never really did me any harm in the long run (from an academic point of view...) because I just did all the work in my spare time, but from a more personal point of view, it was the worst thing that could have happened. I think you need to speak to someone and explain.

Nahh, I'll be alright.

My closest friends are whizzies, so I won't be distracted by chatting to them.
So hopefully, if I don't have any close friends, I won't chat so much.
