Yesterday driving back from Dover experienced one of my pet hates. On the M26 (two lanes) a Norbert Dentressangle (wonderful name!) articulated lorry overtaking an M&S Lorry. Both must have had their speed limiters on with the M&S truck doing 56 mph and the Norbert Dentressangle doing 56.001 mph. mad.gif

I did not check my mileometer when the manoeuvre first started, but I did after a minute or two, and it took a further 3.5 miles for him to complete his overtake after that! The traffic was backed up for miles by then.

I'm sure there must be a law against it?

Oh I know. THey are SO annoying. mad.gif

It happens a lot on the A14 (from M1/M6 junct at Catthorpe) right through past Kettering to Huntingdon. Lots of lorries heading to Felixstowe. I have to use this route a lot to get to in laws and daughters. Dentressangle is one of the worst and another bad one is Mammoet Transport. Also M & S lorries. Its rare for Eddie Stobart to do this.

This is one of my husband's pet hates too. Few motorway journeys are free of at least one episode where he gets more and more apoplectic about lorries! One of these days he'll burst a blood vessel, cause an accident and make the papers; then perhaps at last a law will be passed to ban this crazy kind of overtaking.

mad.gif Why did I ever agree to learn Debussy's Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum over the summer holidays? That's six weeks - less because I'm spending two of them on holiday where there's no available piano to practise on - and it is impossible. Come to think of it, why does anyone write such stupidly fast music? mad.gif

I was in the middle of sorting out parts for a handbell piece on sibelius. Message pops up "We're sorry but sibelius has encountered an error, any unsaved work has been lost." Slight problem is that I only have the demo version so it wasn't saved ie most of a day's work is gone. Hopefully the scan feature works.... fingersCrossed.gif

I would have done, only you can't on the demo version. sad.gif

At least I'd printed a couple of the separate parts off, so it's not completely lost. I think it may be easier to write it out by hand then photocopy it then colour in the parts separately anyway.

I could have sworn there was a banging your head against the wall smilie the other day. blink.gif

I've lost my watch sad.gif We were shopping in town, I took it off and put it in my jumper pocket because I have an insect bite on my wrist, and it was itching. Later on it got warmer, I took off my jumper and I think the watch must have fallen out somewhere in town. I will have to get a new one, and I really liked that one, we got it in Prague a year and a half ago, and it has been very reliable sad.gif Oh well it had a fairly good life span.

Sorry to hear this, madbassoonist. I hope you find a worthy successor.

I lost a watch once; the catch had a tendency to come undone, but there was a safety chain which usually saved the day. On this occasion I got home and realised the watch was missing, so assumed the safety chain had broken. I reported it to the police and waited a few weeks in case it was handed in before claiming on the insurance and buying myself a new watch.

Come the next Winter, I again wore the jacket I'd been wearing on the day I lost the watch - and to my embarrassment discovered the watch in the pocket! blush.gif How it had fallen in there I'm still not sure, but I felt so guilty about the insurance claim that I've never worn it again.

We really did scream!!!

I was upstairs and my partner was in the kitchen when our dog Sylvo started to bark. We are expecting the plumber today so I went downstairs to let him in – assuming that Sylvo’s barking was to let us know he had arrived. When I got to the door I saw that a hot air balloon at practically zero altitude was heading directly for us. You can tell how low it was because Sylvo, whose field of vision is considerably lower than a human’s, had been able to see it from inside the house! I yelled to my partner to stay in the kitchen as it seemed to be heading more for the other side of the house

Of course, we hadn’t heard the balloon approach because they are virtually silent! Halfway across the garden it finally started to rise – we could hear the burn which the pilot was operating to try to get the thing up. In the event it missed our roof by no more than a couple of metres! It passed over the garden next door and rose a bit more as it crossed the village. The actual fabric of the canopy was damaged on one side but the pilot managed to keep it upright because the rigging was still holding the basket.

Once the immediate danger was over I rushed for my camera. The balloon rose a bit over the church and then moved off in the direction of the Gave. As the land falls away steeply at that point I assume he
must either have found a rising current or found a place down by the river to land. Haven’t heard anything since.

We were, to say the least, somewhat shaken. I had visions of the thing taking off the roof and going up in smoke! We do sometimes get balloons passing over a bit low and we also have the low flying troop carrying aircraft which come from Pau where the crack French parachute regiment is stationed. But nothing like this!! We are still shaking!

ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH!

Best holiday in the world ever last week.
Return has seen absolutely everything go to heck in a handcart in the space of about 24 hours (mother-in-law critically ill, husband serious work issues [both as employer and partner of the company])

Followed by work this morning where it seems that things have gone to heck without me here, everybody is ranting at my manager but he seems to have taken it in good spirit and realised that the issue isn't me, it's just been convenient for people to blame my absence for things not happening (when in fact it's stuff like the fact that for WEEKS the testers haven't done stuff and then when I'm away it's blamed to my boss as lack of programmer resource when in fact I'm just sitting here waiting for the testers to tell me to fix-or-deploy!)
