just had the most f'ed up piano lessons today at 6 oclock. i had this other thing on my mind that was upsetting me and couldnt concentrate and played like a gimp.

Don't worry, it CAN'T have been worse than my last piano lesson with my former teacher. Nothing can be worse than that!!!

Bohemian, which are the bits of work you don't understand? I've done all my english stuff, might just be able to help.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGH!

I've just spent over an hour getting more and more frantic searching for my P60 so I can complete my tax return before the deadline. I've scoured through boxes, looked through my suspended files in my desk twice, all to no avail. In trepidation I admit defeat, open my tax return to see what the dread penalties are for losing a P60....

and find my P60 inside the plastic packet along with the tax return form.
katyjay
That's why I fill in the employment section of the return as soon as the P60 arrives - so I don't have time to lose it subsequently.

well i can share with you all a bad week that happened a while ago... i turned up at university to find my boyfriend's ex-girlfriend living 50ft away from me!

and she's pretty and very clever and very nice and just generally amazing. it makes me feel muchly inferior.

maargh.

oh well.
katyjay
And just imagine how it feels for her - her ex-boyfriend's girlfriend living within a stone's throw.....

And you're clever and amazing too, Cheeble. Most unfair....

Why the heck is General Studies so pointless.

Question 3ish.

"An American study showed that people who live by main roads have fewer friends than people who lived in a leafy suburb" Why?

then..

How would you scientifically prove this.

I have some questions for whoever set that work.
1) Who actually bothered doing that study? Do they have a mental problem?
2) Who really cares?
3) How is it relevant to life in any way, shape or form?

I just had parents evening. My English teacher shouted at me. My parents said she is a liar. I accidentally swore at her. She is marking my final coursework tomorrow. I'M AN IDIOT.
Oddball
Well if she shouted at you, at parents evening of all times, I'm not surprised you swore at her.

Oh dear - I don't blame you for swearing at her (good thing you don't go to my school, you'd probably have been suspended)! Why did she shout at you? Is your coursework a written piece? If it is and you get a significantly lower mark than you expected then see if you can show a copy to a more friendly teacher and ask for their opinion.

Well she can't do anything about it because everything I said was true and she has no proof that I told her where she can shove her marking scheme.
QUOTE
Why did she shout at you?

Well firstly because she's an idiot, but she seems to have a problem with me and it has been going on for over a year now and I can't even remember why it started.

Well this was the problem in the first place. She has never given me a grade above a B even though I am in the top division of 6 in a private school, but our mocks were marked to other teachers and I got 91% in Eng Lit and 92% in Eng Lang (both high A*)...coincidence? Methinks not. Considering she gave me 2 grade Bs in the same sort of exams 5 months previously, and I did no work at all for my mocks.

I have been exhausted all week. An irate parent gave me a hard time for not entering her son for grade 1 this term, a spoit 6 year old was really cheeky in his lesson today, the cat was 'playing' and scratched the tips of two of my fingers with his very sharp claws - so I can't play the piano, or any stringed instrument. I put waterproof plasters on them - and they came off in the shower... smile.gif

Better to do that noodle than enter him prematurely and then have him not do as well as he could. You gave your professional opinion, the parent ought to respect it.......

Hope things get better for you soon.

Yes, 7 weeks! I counted the lessons in his notebook from the week the exam book was written down for her to get until the lesson we actually started on the pieces. She thinks it's MY fault he's not ready to do an exam in June!
sarah-flute
Sounds like you need to find a nice way to point out that she needs to buy exam books more quickly in future.

*hugs* sorry to hear you've had a bad week, nood - hope that the weekend is good.
noodle
No, I think I will be finding a nice way to tell her to find another teacher.
Thanks sarah!
sarah-flute
laugh.gif actually that sounds like a very wise idea!
noodle
Yes, I don't need the hassle. In this day and age it isn't difficult to get hold of music books. 30 minutes would take her to the clsoest music shop and back. Failing that, I could order a book tonight on the net and it would be here by Tuesday! It takes her 7 weeks to get her #### into gear to get the book and it becomes my fault her son isn't ready to do grade 1.

Yes, I would agree, it really doesn't seem to be worth all the hassle......

It wasn't a great Sunday.

It was Mother's Day and my birthday.

We knew there'd be no organist at the Chapel Royal all day so L had to play all of Matins and Evensong. And the DoM was going to be away in the afternoon so one of the Gentlemen would be conducting. Lawrence had arranged for a school friend to help him in the afternoon but I was to assist in the morning.

It hadn't been possible for me to go through the music in advance. It was all fairly straightforward except for the voluntary; Whitlock, allegro risoluto. I only ever do general pistons. L needed me to do two passages of sw4, sw3, sw1 and sw4, sw3 gen5, each change coming sort of in the middle of consecutive bars. And they were pretty close to the page turn too. If I'd had a chance to practice it I'd have stood a chance, but I messed it up. The second set I missed completely and he had to do it himself. I'm not an organist.

It was awful. I felt dreadful. He compensated beautifully and I doubt the congregation noticed a thing but I knew I'd let him down.

I left, saying I'd see him later and came home. My wife and I returned for Evensong, arriving at 14:45 (for a 15:30 service). As we arrived at the Palace we had to make way for an emergency service (paramedics) car. Following it in, I stopped and asked a guard I know if it would be OK to park down Tennis Court Lane (as it had started to hail). He advised against it as someone had collapsed in the Chapel and stopped breathing. An ambulance passed us.

At 14:45 that Sunday afternoon the only people in the Chapel Royal would be the choir, Lawrence and his school friend. No one else.

Choir practice had started at 14:20. The Gentleman conducting was in good spirits and all was well. They'd done the anthem and Mag and were just getting into the Nunc (Stanford in C). It starts slow and picks up pace from "To be a light ..." L was watching in the monitor but the conductor was just leaning on the music stand. L kept playing, and the choir kept singing. The conductor fell to the floor. L pushed his mate off the bench and ran downstairs. Emergency services were called and the keys to the main doors found so that they could get in. They arrived in 10 minutes and spent half an hour administering CPR before taking him to the ambulance.

Howard Thomas, the bass and depping conductor was the sweetest man you could ever wish to meet. Sadly, the Lord let his servant depart in peace. If you have the facility and motivation, you might like to include Howard Thomas, Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, in your prayers next Sunday.
