QUOTE(tamsin @ Feb 16 2010, 08:35 PM) *

I'm trying to decide if its a good thing or not that I'm now so good at notloosingmytemper, that when people do seriously upset me (e.g. housemates conveniently forgetting to mention to me that they're hosting a birthday party for someone in my house, and then acting suprised when I wander in to ask whether this was deliberate or not halfway through).

I was completely distraught. Now I'm also furious. But... somehow I just can't show it. I just keep on being nice and (fairly) natural.

Gah, when I start being the kinda person people could treat like sh*t dirt on a whim?

sad.gif

Oh I do that too. I'll rant here, but not mention that I'm irritated to anyone else. Today I did let slip the slightest bit of sarcastic annoyance, but at the wrong person, for which I kind of hate myself. I have a problem with slipping into passive aggression too, so I think I'd really benefit from a bit of assertiveness training.

Sorry about your housemates, I know how you feel at the moment. I hope it was a legitimate accident and all gets sorted out.

Today I was given another antibiotic, the fifth antibiotic in 7 months! I constantly catch chest/throat infections and it's getting a bit ridiculous. I suppose the downside to being a vegetarian and Coeliac is being low in Iron. If only there was a magic vitamin that could instantly boast your immune system. sad.gif
Sorry for the bleakness of the post but I have to get it off my chest haha

I don't remember previously having serious issues being assertive... if anything, when upset I was more likely to go the other way. Suddenly. On the other hand, back when I was at school, whenever my friends tried to argue with me I'd just ignore the situation til they started talking to me again/stopped being catty/similar: It seemed to work fairly well then.

Regarding my housemates, I don't think it was deliberate at all, that's partly why I have no idea how to react.Somehow being casually forgotten, or them just assuming I'm not interested, isnt any better and maybe is worse. I know I'm not always particularly socialable with them, but thats mainly because we have few common interests. Its still nice to be asked/invited/remembered. I'm just left with the general impression they don't care at all. sad.gif

I have to give training this afternoon.
Just really really really really really not in the mood for it.
Unfortunately there's nobody else in the UK who gives this training so I have to do it.
And there are six trainees due so the chances of none of them turning up is pretty slim...! Though they are all attending by phone so perhaps technology will prevent it for me smile.gif

Plus the doughnuts in the office have gone stale (I bought them on Monday, I didn't expect them to still be edible on Wednesday, but neither did I expect there to be any left to be inedible...!)

AAAAAAAAARGH this is really annoying me...
Has anyone else noticed, how on some people's facebook profiles (including mine..) its started to post your first name and surname whenever you comment on something, or do something?! eg It always used to write just "John commented on Fred Bloggs' photo" but now it's writing "John Smith commented on Fred Bloggs' profile"
it's such an insignificant thing but it's soooo annoying!! anyone know how i change it back?

Arghhh! I have a chemistry exam tomorrow, and we'd been given practice papers to revise from by our teacher...my minimum target grade is an A* (ridiculous I know!) so I have to resit until I achieve this (I'm on an A already wacko.gif ) and I'd been doing really well on the papers, until I came in this morning and he said he'd given us the wrong papers blink.gif so had a mad night revising stuff I could have been revising earlier. I also came into school at 8.20am again in the hope of a singing lesson-the teacher wasn't in once again, it's GCSE and A-level recordings over the next three weeks and she hasn't been in for about six weeks! Then just to top it off, I went to my audition for the next school performance-he had split the Moonlight Sonata into the three movements and given each movement to two different people to learn, and I had learnt the first...I went in, thought it went really well, then came out to be told that I couldn't possibly be chosen as I was a)too young (he apparently changed his mind and only wanted sixth-formers) and b)I used the music! He suggested I did the flipping audition and I was never told I wasn't allowed the music, I could have done it from memory! I'm really annoyed that I've wasted all this time on music and chemistry just for it to all turn out to be wrong mad.gif

Sorry to hear about all that Fran, but yay.gif I found another chemist/musician. !! laugh.gif I have had a great career in the chemcal industry (studied at Nottingham Uni), but music has always been a most enjoyable hobby, being fortunate to reach Dip standard at age 16. I will be retiring next year and hope to do a lot more with music.

But my Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh this morning is a mixed feelings one. I was planning to go to Orlando for a conference in Sept, but I just heard my nephew's wedding had been fixed clashing with it !

agree.gif biggrin.gif

though not so yay today as have had a bad day at work - too many urgent problems to solve, very stressful! Then went to my oboe lesson and as I was warming up with a few scales my teacher said that my oboe didn't sound quite right. It seems that one of the keys isn't closing properly...so did the whole lesson with the D, C# and forked F sounding completly wrong. sad.gif really was terrible and very, very off putting. I have arranged to drop it off for repair tomorrow night but it's a very awkward time for it to go - I am going away with work on Sunday night, not back till late next Friday and on Saturday I am meant to be playing in an orchestra concert! So really hoping that it is something that can be sorted out quickly!

I guess all minor things in the grand scheme of things....but still, today has not felt like a good day. sad.gif

Worried about tomorrow. I think a pass or fail will all just depend on what the questions are. Oh well, I'm doing it with a bunch of friends, and the likelyhood is that we'll all find it equally hard, and are all likely to either pass, or fail together. Still.

Aaaaaaaaargh. Went for some diesel at 7.30 last night and never seen some many cars queueing, about 4 at each pump. Highly unusual for a small village in Wharfedale (Pool in Wharfedale). Went back to my hotel, and watched the England footy. Went back again, it was just turned 10 and garage had just closed. But it would have been no good in any case as I had left my wallet in the hotel room ! sad.gif

Had a presentation to do in a seminar today. I didn't research it enough (it was on music in Twelfth Night) but I figured I'd be able to blag it, as it's such a broad topic. I mentioned it offhand to my singing teacher, and she went mental, basically. She's lovely and ever-so-helpful, but I joked that I might just burst into song, as I vaguely knew the Quilter setting of Come Away Death. Well she took it seriously and taught me that and some other settings... Well I used them in my presentation, went really flat, it sounded horrible and now I'm so embarrassed, I feel like I can never sing again. sad.gif

Thanks Skylark! I feel silly needing reassurance, but honestly there are days when I think I'm actually alright at singing, and days when I just feel like everyone in the world is better than me. It doesn't help that after I'd finished the song, the tutor was asking me about it, and when I was at a loss another (lovely) girl chimed in with a load of details, and was obviously something of an expert in music of that period. My heart just sank - a twenty minute crash course in a song isn't long enough to make a good impression on anyone who knows anything about the style of music. sad.gif I won't be singing in seminars any time soon, I have to say.

Self-doubt is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact it can be quite a good thing because if we thought we were wonderful, we wouldn't see any need to try and improve. It's only if it makes you give up that it's a bad thing. It sounds like it's been a very valuable experience that you've learnt from. Much better to have these experiences within the confines of a seminar room than on a stage biggrin.gif
